COMMON MYTHS AROUND TEACHING
Myths #2 "*Teaching is easy*"👇👇👇
Many believed that standing in front of a classroom, imparting knowledge, was a straightforward task. Little did they know, this notion was woven with threads of misconception.
I uncover the reality that teaching is far from a walk in the park. teaching is:
Myth #1: "Teaching is just talking about a subject."
Contrary to popular belief, effective teaching goes beyond reciting facts. It involves the intricate dance of engaging students, adapting to diverse learning styles, and fostering a dynamic classroom environment.
Myth #2: "Teachers enjoy long vacations."
Summers are often spent preparing for the upcoming academic year, attending professional development sessions, and refining lesson plans.
Myth #3: "Good teachers can make every student excel."
Students are diverse in their abilities, backgrounds, and motivations. While teachers play a crucial role, factors beyond their control influence individual student outcomes.
Dispelling these myths is crucial for understanding and appreciating the multifaceted nature of teaching. It requires a blend of expertise, adaptability, and a deep commitment to the development of each student. Teaching is a noble craft, one that demands continuous effort and a passion for fostering knowledge and growth.

We understand the importance of allowing teachers to spend more time engaging with their students rather than creating lesson content from scratch. As Lara Hayes, Head of Department at Nerang State High School, perfectly puts it:
“I want teachers to spend time knowing their kids. If I can provide a resource so that they are not having to create lesson content, Stile has got everything in there that we need.”
With Stile’s comprehensive and customisable core curriculum, we provide all the resources necessary to ensure that every lesson is high-quality and engaging, freeing up valuable time for teachers to focus on what truly matters.

Had long conversations with Dr. Myna Umaiban, writer and faculty of Malayalam and Mr. Hasker, Faculty of Food Technology, at MES Mampad College. The conversation which revolved around Four Year Undergraduate Programme (FYUGP) implementation concerns and prospects, among other things, focussed on the faculty readiness to grab the opportunity offered by the new curriculum and the crying need for change in the way the learners are engaged.
Will this be a wake up call for the faculty members and the leadership? Will they realise that this is a point at which change can be embraced, as every moment of major transition offers space and justification to root for a system overhaul? How many of the HEIs will use this moment to relaunch themselves and render the student lives more engaging, considering the enrollment decline slowly gripping the HEIs? Will flexibility and learner autonomy, central to the FYUGP, be truly honoured in practice? How do we instill the passion for learning among students and faculty? How different will be the sessions to which the inaugural batch of FYUGP aspirants walk in, come July 2024?
Nothing magical is expected but isolated faculty members, departments and institutions here and there, will undoubtedly jump right in and drive transition. That's how it always works. We need more and more such pockets of transformation. The faculty members who strive to deliver the package are the key, whatever be the policy guidelines or curriculum design.
Thank you Myna Umaiban and Hasker.
🚀 Advancing Teacher Competence through Rigorous Module Development 📚
I am thrilled to share some insights from my recent work with Balai Guru Penggerak (BGP) Bengkulu. We've been focusing on the crucial task of developing training modules for enhancing teacher competence. This endeavor is pivotal in building a robust educational framework for our teachers.
🔍 The Balai Guru Penggerak is an organization established to carry out the mandate of developing teacher competence. Developing training modules for teacher competence is a vital process to ensure appropriate improvement for teachers. However, the creation of these modules has not been accompanied by a process to verify the validity of their substance. Up to now, the validation process has only addressed language and readability.
🔍 Reflecting on this situation, there is a need for a process to validate the substance and objectives of the modules. Content validity is employed to ensure the validity of the substance and objectives of the developed modules. The purpose of this study is to use the content validity process in module development to produce modules with high validity in accordance with content validity methods.
⚙ There are two intervention processes carried out: the first validity check after the module writing, and the second check after the revisions have been made. I'm pleased to share that our efforts have led to significant progress, with many of our modules demonstrating strong validity and readiness for the next phase.
💡 This project underscores the importance of content validity in creating effective training materials and reaffirms our commitment to excellence in teacher development. We had a productive online meeting with Pak Kepala BGP on June 5th, 2024 to discuss these advancements. Together, we are shaping the future of education, one module at a time!

Liberty in Learning: The Merdeka Belajar Initiative
The Merdeka Belajar Curriculum represents a significant advancement in the Indonesian education landscape, promising transformative changes in the manner in which we learn and teach. Adopting a project-based approach, this curriculum aims to provide teachers and students with greater freedom and flexibility in the learning process, while simultaneously enhancing the overall quality of education.
As we commemorate National Education Day on May 2, 2024, it is fitting to reflect on the transformative potential of initiatives such as the Merdeka Belajar Curriculum in shaping the future of education in Indonesia. This commemoration serves as a reminder of the ongoing efforts to revolutionize our education system and provide every student with the opportunity to thrive.
One of the primary advantages of the Merdeka Belajar Curriculum is its emphasis on developing students' soft skills and character. The curriculum's focus on interactive learning through real-world projects equips students with the ability to be innovative and creative while simultaneously strengthening their moral values and ethical conduct essential for success.
However, like any innovation, this curriculum presents challenges. One such challenge is the need for thorough preparation, both in terms of infrastructure and teacher training for implementing the novel learning approach. Additionally, the active involvement of parents and other stakeholders is essential for the successful implementation of this curriculum.
Nonetheless, should this curriculum prove to be a success, its impact on the Indonesian education system will be profound. Students will be better prepared to meet future challenges, while teachers will have greater scope to adopt more creative and innovative teaching methods. Such a development will have a profound and positive influence on the education system, leading to significant improvements in the quality of teaching and learning, and contributing to the emergence of an advanced and competitive nation.
In conclusion, it can be argued that the Merdeka Belajar Curriculum represents not just an educational innovation, but also an important step towards liberating the education sector in the country. By providing individuals with the autonomy to learn and develop according to their potential, it is possible to create a more promising and enduring future for generations yet to come.

Students' self-esteem has been a major contribution to the success of learning 💪
🎆 Self-esteem, the deep-seated belief in one's worth and capabilities, plays a pivotal role in shaping a student's learning journey. It acts as a driving force, influencing their motivation, engagement, and resilience in the face of academic challenges. Students with high self-esteem exhibit a positive outlook, approaching learning with enthusiasm and a willingness to take risks. They are more likely to actively participate in class discussions, ask questions, and seek help when needed. This proactive engagement fosters a deeper understanding of concepts and leads to improved academic performance. 🎆
😭 😵 While self-esteem plays a crucial role in academic success, various factors can contribute to its decline, hindering students' learning potential. These factors are ranging from excessive pressure to do better along with unrealistic expectations, bullying and social exclusion, to external stressors. Understanding these factors is essential for educators to effectively address and mitigate their impact.
👨🏫 As a curriculum specialist at Bali Children Foundation, I play a crucial role in ensuring that strategies to promote self-awareness, self-acceptance, and self-efficacy are effectively integrated into the curriculum and training manuals. One of the key approaches I incorporated into the EdTech program's curriculum and training manuals is social-emotional learning (SEL). The approach has evidently created a positive and supportive learning environment, where students feel comfortable engaging in learning without feeling pressured. This is best demonstrated by the work of one of our teacher, Victor Salindeho in the following video:

Thank you for the opportunity to complete another term in my second-year official teaching journey. (Still premature🙏)
I have had a lovely habit worth sharing since I joined Sekolah Cikal. Our curriculum finishes each term with a reflective week (at the very last meeting with our students).
Feeling that it was a good idea, I also implemented it every weekend after I finished teaching. Of course, the reason is that the first term is always our laboratory to get to know the students and juggle dynamics in the class in order to find the most effective formula for managing the class.
Encouraged to have a reflective journal by the end of the term. I really feel that it is a powerful tool for educators for several reasons.
Firstly, it enhances self-awareness, helping us to manage stress and maintain a positive attitude. Secondly, it promotes professional growth by identifying areas for improvement. Moreover, it fosters effective problem-solving skills, strengthens relationships with students, gets insight from colleagues, and keeps motivation high even during challenging times. Plus, for someone who has a memory problem, it's an excellent way to document achievements and milestones.
Embrace reflective journaling to bring positivity and continuous growth into your teaching journey, and inspire others to do the same!
p.s. Here are some supplements you can take if you are considering starting your journaling :) Thank you for reading

Teacher- Students Whether it is a Journey of Few Years or Life Long Relationship:
Xun Kuang emphasizes the significance of active learning and engagement in the educational process. This philosophy underscores the varying levels of impact that different teaching methods have on students.
When a teacher merely imparts information through telling, it often leads to short-term retention that fades over time. However, teaching methods that encourage active participation and interaction facilitate deeper understanding and longer-lasting knowledge. When a teacher engages students through interactive discussions, hands-on activities, and real-world applications, students are more likely to retain the information and internalize the concepts.
Involvement in the learning process not only enhances comprehension but also cultivates critical thinking, problem-solving skills, and a sense of ownership over one's education. Students who are actively involved are more motivated, curious, and capable of applying their learning in practical situations. In conclusion, the quote underscores the transformative power of involving students in their own learning journey, leading to meaningful and lasting educational outcomes.
It is High time to understand the concept where we are in the journey in which we can create new journeys of our students.
Correction: Benjamin Franklin never said this quote. It came from a book called Xunzi by Xun Kuang 📓

I collaborated with Mrs. Dr. Nyimas Triyana Safitri and Mrs. Dr. Masbirorotni to explore about Merdeka Belajar Curriculum at Sekolah Penggerak and the article entitled Merdeka Belajar Curriculum: EFL Teachers’ Perparations and Practices at Sekolah Penggerak Kota Jambi.
It was really interesting to explore about it since it is a current program that was issued by Ministry of Education. There are only few schools can implement this program since this program only can be implemented by the eligible school (passed the tests).
In this research, the researcher interviewed and observed 5 English teacher at Sekolah Penggerak. Then, through this research, it is revealed the preparation of teachers in teaching was in form of training, teachers’ development, facilities, and material for teaching.
In short, Merdeka Belajar Curriculum has been implemented by teachers which had been through the analysis of the learning achievements, implementation of diagnostic assessment, and development of teaching modules, implementation of differentiation learning, teaching evaluation and assessment. As finding presented, this study provides the implication in pedagogy such as the reference for future researchers and for improvements in the implementation of English language learning.
