ODEC hosted the 12th annual G&T Distributed Energy Resources (DER) Roundtable in Charlottesville, Virginia. The gathering has become an integral forum for discussion of best practices with DER programs, introduction of new technologies and programs, and hearing from industry experts. Topics covered included virtual power plants, aggregation, energy efficiency, EV telematics, and data integration. Approximately 60 participants, representing more than half of the nation’s G&Ts attended. Working together and sharing best practices will help G&Ts meet the ever-increasing energy needs. #cooperationamongcooperatives

Today, The Executives' Club of Chicago organized a highly informative conversation, titled "The Electrification of Everything", with Schneider Electric North American President Aamir Paul, and ComEd CEO and World Business Chicago board member, Gil C. Quiniones, moderated by UL Solutions CEO Jennifer Scanlon. There were many important insights that all three shared, here are some of the most important ones: - We need to douple the electric grid by 2050 to satisfy the growing demand for electricity while simultaneously further increasing the reliability of the grid. The growing demand is coming from all three core customer groups: Residential, Commercial, and Industrial. As one industrial example, Gil mentioned the significant growth of data centers in Northern Illinois due to our state's affordable and reliable energy. Additionally, the state is pursuing large manufacturing projects (e.g EV factories, Battery plants, Chip Production) with significant demands for electricity. - Our 100 years old model of an electricity grid needs to evolve from a centralized grid with a one way power flow to a decentralized and multi ways power flow where current electricity consumers can act as both users and generators. - Increasing energy efficiency across all residential and commercial activities needs to stay a strong pillar of managing our energy consumption. The wide spread implementation of Artificial Intelligence will play a significant role to address this need for ever improved energy efficiency. - Aamir shared a great example of how Schneider Electrics partnered with KB Home to build a 200 home large residential section in California where every house is fully electrified with its own independent and bi-directional electricity micro-grid. There was broad agreement that we all need to be part of the solution to use all current energy sources more efficiently and create carbon neutral energy sources over the long-term while becoming a decentralized electricity enabled society. Thank you to my good friend and The Executives' Club of Chicago CEO Margaret M. Mueller, Ph.D. for enabling important business and civic conversations. See you soon at the next one.
