Friday Evening Fail! Failing to recognize gaps in your career. I do a fair bit of traveling for my current job. Sometimes traveling up to 2.5 hours one way to get to my clinic sites. I was recently asked why I don't take a similar position closer to home, even within McLaren Health Care. It's an interesting question, because there certainly are positions that are closer to my home. However after thinking quickly on the answer, I immediately went to what my current position has to offer. One is exposure to rural health clinics, which a closer-to-home position would not offer. Experience with rural health clinics is something I don't have a ton of experience with. Two is that I have never implemented an EHR system as they were all in place when I started at the various organizations I have worked at. While McLaren is largely Cerner Corporation based, two of my three markets are not on Cerner. So the opportunity to gain experience implementing an EHR is on the horizon for me. Third, I'm still fostering and building relationships within the markets I do serve, and hopefully, making a difference. In the end, I recognize there are gaps in my experience that I need to fill if I am going to strengthen the likelihood of getting to the next level. This week's FEF...we all have gaps within our career, whether that be within the position we currently hold or between your current position and the next level. Don't forget to recognize these gaps and work to close them. #healthcareadministration #fridaymotivation #careersuccess

In my 18-year journey through the healthcare industry, I’ve never felt more excited about my personal contributions to the health tech community than I do right now. From the moment I stepped into the world of healthcare IT staffing and consulting fresh out of college, I knew that I wanted to ignite change. Witnessing inefficiencies within the system fueled a fire within me, sparking an idea that would later become Abra. For decades, I’ve dedicated myself to bringing to fruition my vision of fostering accessibility, affordability, transparency, and accountability in health IT staffing and consulting . Along the path, I encountered countless trials and hardships, facing setbacks that seemed insurmountable. Each time I got kicked down, I got back up pushed forward, persisting towards my goal. Launching Abra was just the beginning of a challenging yet rewarding journey. Building trust with both talent and employers was no easy feat, but every hurdle we overcame only fueled our determination. And now, standing at this pivotal moment, I am overcome with sheer excitement and gratitude. The energy and enthusiasm we’ve received from our interactions during this conference season are electrifying. We’ve reached a moment where both Abra and the market are perfectly aligned and primed for action. The momentum is palpable, and the impact we’re poised to make is nothing short of extraordinary. To every person who has believed in us and supported our vision, I extend my deepest thanks. Together, we’re not just shaping the future of healthcare hiring; we’re revolutionizing it. This journey has become more than a career – it’s a passion, a purpose, and a commitment to making a difference. I am profoundly grateful for the opportunity to be part of something truly transformative. Thank you, from the bottom of my heart.

Exciting news! We recently wrapped up original research in partnership with the Chicagoland Healthcare Workforce Collaborative (CHWC), where we sought to understand how frontline healthcare workers perceived opportunities for career advancement. Read the report, "'What Opportunities?': Understanding Committed Frontline Healthcare Workers' Perceptions of Career Advancement Opportunities" here: https://lnkd.in/gStVUb4Z Over the course of the project, WORC (Workforce & Organizational Research Center) surveyed hundreds of frontline healthcare workers across four Chicagoland healthcare systems on their perceptions of career pathways and advancement. Survey participants, who appeared to represent the most-committed frontline workers at these healthcare systems, indicated that they... 1. Are generally happy at their healthcare systems 2. Feel they have opportunities to gain skills, but cost is a barrier 3. Are interested in advancing their careers, but are unsure about the likelihood of success 4. Desire more career guidance Want to hear more about our study? On October 17th, I had the opportunity to share these research findings and more during a special webinar event hosted by CHWC. Check out the recording here: https://lnkd.in/gf66z_Xx Many thanks to April Harrington, our healthcare system research partners, and the Chicagoland Workforce Funder Alliance for their hard work making this research a reality. Our true gratitude goes out to the hundreds of frontline healthcare workers who took the time to respond to our survey. #Healthcare #FrontlineWorkers #CareerPathways #WORCEvidence #ProjectCompletion

Emory Healthcare made an underrated and very bold move that runs contrary to all our irrationally predictable human nature. They eliminated hospital-specific CEOs since those roles are incented to compete against each other just as much as they compete against rival hospitals. Providence Health System in Oregon made a similar move in the late 90's with program line (heart, cancer, etc.) leadership and it allowed for a true health system that is best positioned to lower costs and be efficient. Eliminating these leadership roles is really hard since the hospitals have to trust a single leader who is working with their other system hospitals that used to compete. It requires organizational strength, belief, and culture to make these right decisions. Congratulations Emory on your leadership. This post will wrap up with a throw down to the LinkedIn community. There are too many posts that take too much effort to point out what's wrong in healthcare. These posts don't solve problem, exacerbate social media rage, and are too easy to write. If you post what's wrong in healthcare, point out who's doing something right (besides your own company). If you have written consecutive posts about what's wrong, research and highlight something that someone else did well. https://lnkd.in/gaJXnbJY

Through absolutely no fault of their own, most healthcare workers’ pain education is seriously lacking. I have spent the majority of my career trying to fix this by training fellow clinicians one-on-one. While I love this approach, as it gives me instant gratification, I’m at the point in my career where I want to make a larger impact and help to train a greater number of clinicians and future healthcare workers. This is why I started Stringer Health. To my knowledge we are the only company focused specifically on acute pain academic detailing. I want to make this as easy and as satisfying as it can be so in the future the numbers in this survey are turned on their head. Please follow along as I work toward releasing several very exciting evidence-based acute pain Academic Detailing products this year. Stringer Health helps acute care healthcare workers overcome the most common acute pain issues by teaching them evidence-based, rational, and effective strategies used by Pain Pharmacists so they are able to confidently focus on other aspects of patient care.
Recently we polled healthcare workers across several social media platforms and asked about the quality of their academic and experiential education on acute pain management during their careers. Here are the results:
