Today marks Juneteenth, a day that's not just about celebrating freedom, but also about recognizing the ongoing fight for true equality and justice. Juneteenth is a call to action to amplify marginalized voices, champion equity, and pursue justice relentlessly. Delving deeper into the histories and narratives teach us that while we've made strides, oppression is sadly still alive and active in our community. As small business owners, we have the ability to be part of that change. To dismantle the systemic barriers that still exist. Not sure where to start? Learn more here https://lnkd.in/gqvPZFF.

I hope everyone has a mindful and happy Juneteenth! Dr. Opal Lee's story is a beautiful reminder of how our voices are our super power. Today we celebrate freedom and, most importantly, the reminder that none of us are free unless all of us are free. Celebrate and recharge for the work that must be done to further equity and justice. https://lnkd.in/eeR9PZiq

The Dignity of Work and the Rights of Workers is a tenant of Catholic Social Teaching that calls our society to protect, honor, and support laborers. This stems from the understanding that our economy is built to serve people, not vice versa. Work is more than a way to make a living; it is a continuing form of participation in the Creator’s work. Solidarity Futures, an organization dedicated to building a multiracial, pluralistic American democracy, is having its first public event — and it’s a big one! Solidarity is hard work — inner work and outer work. And it’s hardest when it feels like the arc of the universe has taken a bend away from justice. The key is to not give up, but rather to recruit, refresh, and remain. We are bringing together four amazing legal minds — Thomas Saenz, Anurima Bhargava, and Victor M. Jones — with social justice comedian, author, and “Wait Wait… Don’t Tell Me!” regular Negin Farsad to better understand the legal landscape and how to dig deeper for equitable schools, workplaces, communities, and country. This is for lawyers, educators, DEI practitioners, activists, friends, relatives, and white people who are trying to lean into their value of racial justice. It’s for everyone — including those of us who are just trying to better understand what has changed. Register today: https://lnkd.in/dtsXjyjF

Transactional solidarity is not enough. This country, as a democracy, really cannot expect to continue to be proud on the world stage, competitive in the global economy, or have a democracy that it can put forward as working in a multiracial society, if we don't invest in the people who are the future. We need transformative solidarity to bring us to a thriving multiracial democracy. https://lnkd.in/gjFchT3d

Did you know Juneteenth began on June 19, 1865 when Major General Granger ordered the final enforcement of the Emancipation Proclamation in Texas. It is said by many to be our country's second independence day. So why is this important to us all? Opal Lee, the grandmother of Juneteenth said: "Freedom, freedom, freedom for everybody! I don't want people to think that celebrating freedom via Juneteenth is just about a Black holiday or just a Texas holiday. It's about knowing that we all have a stake in making this the best country in the world." Pictured are Juneteenth celebrations across the nation since its inception 159 years ago.
