I really enjoyed watching this and thanks to our great association as Chief of Staff - The Chief of Staff Association for the continual commitment to making other Chief of Staff navigate this journey seamlessly, especially through allowing us learn from others in the same role. Here are the things that stood out for me in this video; 1. No two days are the same: I have experienced this so well that sometimes the previous day can’t even prepare you for the next as it unfolds its own uniqueness and experience. Staying vigilant, ensuring you are well equipped to face whatever comes is imperative in this role of a Chief of Staff. 2. Be a step ahead: Like she rightly said and I paraphrase “I was in this current project a month ago and already mentally in the next one”. I often times have to think like a chess player as I can’t live only in the present. I have to always know my next 10 moves even before taking the first one. 3. Communication: The importance of this can’t be over emphasized. Communication here is not just talking but ensuring comprehension, specification and clarity while executing task or in relations with all stakeholders. Most times you even have to be psychological and diplomatic in ensuring that you understand what is truly communicated to you, and people you communicate with understand what is communicated to them especially in intricate matters. 4. Have fun: I remember sharing with a friend when we had a delayed flight how I enjoy what I do and how it’s allowed me do it with ease regardless of the colossal amount of challenges, stress and difficulty it brings. At some point I would see myself execute my task from the place of a habit and not just from the place of a duty as I have fallen in love with it and gotten so used to it from a place of fun. Conclusion: The role of a Chief of staff is very dynamic and an extremely important role. Getting to listen to different experiences, lessons etc. of other would help keep you going and give you insight in navigating this role. If you are a Chief of Staff or you are coming into this career path, join The Chief of Staff Association to keep learning and seamlessly navigate this role. Thank you Laban-Cliff Onserio, MBA, CSA and Thamar E. H. for this insightful questions and answer.

What an incredible day we had yesterday. The first Lived Experience Leadership Conference for the sight loss sector! There was so much to digest - my brain was totally full last night it was hard to unwind! Three takeaways for me: 1. There are so many legendary leaders within our sector, all putting their own lived experience of sight loss at the centre and pushing themselves and developing. 2. Our community is really strong - supportive, kind and driven. 3. On a personal level I was so inspired by all the conversations and connections, it has given me a renewed inspiration to be the change and see the change we want to (need to) see from within. And two things which made me really proud! 1. Seeing the Visionary_UK membership turn up in force. 2. Seeing some of our own MyVision Oxfordshire team (pictured below) connecting, building confidence and developing within their own leadership journey. (Margaret Hart, Nathan Tree, Andy Smith, Devante Claridge) The conference was the match that has lit the fire for loads of action this year - and next year, I hope we can do it again to continue to fan the flame! Huge well done Mona Jethwa, Nina Chesworth, David Aldwinckle, Cathy Low, Bhavini Makwana, Clare Burgess, Pete Osborne - and everyone else involved! #LEXLeadership24
