What a great treasure from the archives, thanks Olger Warnier ! And what a truly visionary effort to develop this protocol jointly with multiple market players, without any IP or ownership claims, only focusing on making EMobility successful. Nice to the participation and commitment through the years. In 2016, Nationaal Kennisplatform Laadinfrastructuur NKL, as a neutral foundation, was asked to further grow the protocol. With their efforts, OCPI v2.2.1 as we know it today, has been published. And in 2020, the EVRoaming Foundation was founded, a dedicated management organisation to give OCPI a stable and global future. Today, OCPI is the roaming protocol of choice for many countries and businesses, and prescribed in contracts or regulation. It is also increasingly being used for other data driven business cases, which all benefit from an open, IP free, information protocol. The future is bright, and interoperable!
This month it’s 10 years ago that the #OCPI interface was introduced. Dennis Laumen was so friendly to dig it from his archives during our EVroaming and telco roaming meetup. Although the titles are Dutch, the content is English stating “Offer market participants in EV an attractive solution for (international) roaming between networks, avoiding the costs and complexities involved with central hubs, so the market can develop quickly and players can execute their business models in the best way.” Nowadays the EVRoaming Foundation is supporting the interface that has become the global standard 🎉
