CSF could also be defined as an emerging branch of sustainable forest management that aims to manage forests in response to climate change. In summary, this approach builds on three main topics: • Reducing and/or removing greenhouse gas emissions to mitigate climate change; • Adapting forest management to build resilient forests; • Active forest management aiming to sustainably increase productivity and provide all benefits that forests can provide. Today, Desertification and Drought Day, we Join the United Nations movement #United4Land and embrace the slogan “Our Legacy. Our Future”. 🌱🌳 This year’s theme recognizes the crucial role that land plays in our lives – from supporting ecosystems and biodiversity to underpinning our economies and communities. And the slogan challenges us to reflect on the legacy we're creating through our actions today. Engaging people is more important than ever to halt and reverse land degradation and meet the global commitments to restore 1.5 billion hectares of degraded land by 2030. In the forests managed by Navigator, soil protection combines the best forestry practices with benchmark techniques such as edaphoclimatic zoning, a methodology carried out by RAIZ – Forest and Paper Research Institute (R&D laboratory co-owned by The Navigator Company, University of Aveiro, University of Coimbra and University of Lisbon, through the School of Agriculture), which allows stratifying and classifying the productive potential of a land, according to soil characteristics and climate conditions. This practice, among others, help increase organic matter levels in the soil, making it healthier and more resilient.
