SOMEC group naval refitting cos. #SINTESI and NAVALTECH | Refit architetture navali. announced this week the win of €22.1mn record contracts aboard seven #cruise liners owned by one of the world's largest shipowners. The work activities will start as early as 2024 at shipyards in Europe and Central America, and continue throughout 2025. As the total number of cruise liners sailing the world’s oceans reached 323 in 2023, and yearly newbuilds are in the tens (24 in 2022, 17 in 2023), cruise operators have a continuing refitting and refurbishment schedule of their older fleet, to meet with capacity an increasing number of passengers – 20.2mn in 2022 and estimated 30 mn in 2023. This is the #refit industry, a growing sector demanding accurate planning and efficient delivery times. Navaltech operates primarily at Northern and Central American yards, SOMEC Sintesi operates in Europe and the Middle East. Their highly skilled technicians travel in ‘refit squads’ to far-flung locations, completing projects at impressive rates. The Tupolev TU-144 was the first supersonic passenger airplane to enter into service. Designed by Tupolev, It was introduced in December 1968, just a few months before the Concorde.
