𝐅𝐨𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐎𝐩𝐞𝐧 𝐃𝐢𝐚𝐥𝐨𝐠𝐮𝐞 𝐨𝐧 𝐒𝐨𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐒𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐢𝐧 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐜𝐮𝐫𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 🇲🇽 Just wrapped up an inspiring week in Mexico training our Procurement colleagues on engaging with suppliers on social sustainability. What truly impressed me was the ownership and engagement from the team! We approached these conversations with a focus on transparency and openness, starting by discussing our own internal challenges and opportunities with human rights risks (publicly available here: https://lnkd.in/dwnDNq6t). With the suppliers, we explored how to improve our colaboration to empower them to address human rights risks. Our discussions spanned three key categories: truck, rail, and towage. It was particularly eye-opening to learn about the challenges faced by #truck drivers in Mexico, where armed robberies are a major concern. Truck companies are commendable in their use of the latest technology, training and many other efforts to protect their operators, but the issue remains complex and relies heavily on state intervention. One common theme in our conversations was the importance of accessible #complaints_mechanisms that allow (potential) affected people to raise their concerns anonymously and remain informed throughout the process. While all companies have such mechanisms in place, the key lies in their accessibility and transparency. Another area of focus was Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (#DEI). I am hopeful that by recognizing and fostering female talent, we can drive innovation in the Transport & Logistics sector in the coming years. This experience highlighted the power of open communication in building stronger partnerships and driving positive change in the supply chain.
