The increasing cost of raw materials and energy is forcing the brewing industry to investigate new opportunities for increasing extract yield without compromising quality. Excess yeast contains a significant amount of extract which can be recovered by concentrating the yeast with modern cross-flow technology. By combining this technology with controlled Día-filtration the yield can even be boosted. The recovered beer can be blended with the original beer up to 5% volume without negatively influencing the taste. Beer recovery can contribute to cost savings in the brewery. Pall has developed the unique Keraflux beer recovery platform. Keraflux® is a Pall crossflow technology, specially designed for handling high solid bioproduct streams in large quantities. It uses Exekia® ceramic membranes

Steinecker and ERBSLÖH: Forward-looking cooperation for a better CO₂ footprint in the industry Erbslöh and Steinecker signed a cooperation agreement at this year's BrauBeviale. Many breweries have already converted their processes or are already preparing intensively for a change-over so that they can look to the future with a positive outlook and a clear conscience. We're talking about kieselguhr-free filtration, which is a real success with the combination of TFS filters from Krones subsidiary Steinecker and VarioFluxx® PreCoat filtration from ERBSLÖH Geisenheim GmbH. The two companies have now signed a cooperation agreement at the BrauBeviale 2023 in Nuremberg and are looking forward to working together for the industry. The two companies have joined forces to offer a genuine alternative to diatomaceous earth with a combination of filter and filter aid that offers a major advantage: The raw materials used - perlite and cellulose - come from Germany and Europe. "The ERBSLÖH VarioFluxx® technology consists of an innovative combination of selected perlite types that have been combined with specially developed, sustainable cellulose fibres. This allows diatomaceous earth to be eliminated as a filter aid without any loss of quality and with potentially increased filtration performance in beer production". The Steinecker Twin Flow Filter System and the alternative technology from ERBSLÖH combine the advantages of classic precoat filtration with a sustainable and future-proof application. An unbeatable combination," explained Wolfgang Müller, Head of Sales Key Account at Steinecker GmbH. In order to meet the high demands of beer filtration, ERBSLÖH has developed two filter aid mixtures that are used specifically for the first and second precoat. The first precoat Vario-Fluxx® PreCoat1 forms a well-structured and stable filter layer, the second precoat VarioFluxx® PreCoat2 forms a fine clarifying layer to reduce turbidity. The ongoing dosage is carried out with special perlites. "Steinecker has realised the most innovative development in precoat filtration in recent years with the TFS, and with the VarioFluxx® it now also has the right alternative for filtering beers in a future-oriented, economical and sustainable way. In short, the pot gets its lid or, in brewing parlance, the bottle gets the right crown cork," said Volker Müller, Head of Brewing at ERBSLÖH Geisenheim GmbH. Thanks to its register concept, the TFS Twin Flow System promises a high level of economic efficiency, offers low losses thanks to the very small mixing phase during discharge after precoating and conserves the resources used. In future, customers will be able to rely on the combined expertise of the two specialists. Anyone wishing to find out more about the new co-operation in person can contact their colleagues from ERBSLÖH at Stand 219 in Hall 7 and their colleagues from Steinecker at Stand 510 in Hall 7A during BrauBeviale.

Discover Cutting-Edge Brewing Equipment Understanding the complexities of the beer production process is crucial for industry professionals seeking to enhance operational efficiency and product quality. This process begins with the crushing of grains using a crushing machine, which prepares the malt for the saccharification process in the mash tun. The lauter tun then plays a pivotal role in filtering the mash, separating the wort from the spent grain. The wort is transferred to the boiling pot, where it is boiled and hops are added for flavoring. Following boiling, the wort is moved to the whirlpool tun, allowing solids to settle. Cooling is then achieved through a refrigerating system, crucial for preparing the wort for fermentation. Yeast is added to the cooled wort in the fermenter, where the fermentation process transforms sugars into alcohol and carbon dioxide. The final stages involve transferring the beer to a bright beer tank for maturation, clarification, and further conditioning before storage and packaging. Professionals in the brewing industry are encouraged to explore the technological advancements and equipment utilized throughout this process, to innovate and improve their brewing operations. For those looking to delve deeper into the technological aspects of beer production and more, registering on Plateforme NIRUDI offers a gateway to a wealth of resources and networking opportunities within the agricultural and industrial sectors. Imagine the price of fuel going up to ₦1200/L, as speculated. Beer manufacturing companies could step in and save the masses. You say how? When beer is produced, the byproducts are usually leftover grains and yeast slurry. When these two items are subjected to fermentation, distillation, and furification, a high grade of ethanol is produced, which can be used as fuel in cars. Beer brand companies can make use of free spaces on the highway and create their own branded filling stations where fuel will be sold at a cheap price, or if you buy crates of beer, they come with cards you can redeem for fuel at their designated fuel stations for free. Raise a glass (or recyclable PET bottle), it's International Beer Day! 🍻 As craft breweries continue innovating, some are exploring high-pressure processing (HPP) to create stable, fresh-tasting beer without heat pasteurization or preservatives. Early research shows promise for HPP to inactivate beer-spoilage microorganisms and extend shelf life, without compromising flavor. The non-thermal process leaves functional and flavor molecules intact, maintaining beer's delicate aroma and mouthfeel. For craft brewers pursuing wider distribution, HPP could be a game-changer. Companies like Petainer offer HPP-compatible PET plastic beer bottles. Unlike traditional glass, lightweight PET can withstand HPP and is shatterproof and recyclable - ideal for small producers seeking to scale up production and distribution. Of course, while the science looks good, the proof is in the pint. We look forward to tasting where innovators like you take HPP beer. Cheers to fresh thinking and raising the bar!
