I've never pitch-slapped 🤚 anyone on LinkedIn, have you? I'll bet you have received a pitch-slap - or 50. The only positive about this is the new term we have to describe it - thanks, Ann! Here's why it's such a faux pas: because it isn't personal AT ALL. Sending a blanket message intended to be taken from the receiver and given to the sender is definitely a pitch-slap. Messaging should never be about you or even your audience. It should be about one person. It should be as personal as possible. You should know their needs and struggles and make a connection before offering a solution. Effective strategy, content, and patience are your friends here. When we do business right, everyone wins. And while there may be an effective cold pitch here and there, there is no room for a pitch-slap in business.
