ℹ️ To study nature-based solutions (#NBS) with a multi-level, multi-actor approach, trans4num has selected four European (and three Chinese) sites, as shown in the picture below. Excited to share the highlights of my freshly out of press paper, "Microbial applications and agricultural sustainability: A simulation analysis of Dutch potato farms“ in Agricultural Systems. Frederic Ang, Ine van der Fels-Klerx and me delve into the impact of microbial applications on Dutch potato production sustainability: 🥔 We assess the sustainability of microbial applications in Dutch potato production, revealing a reduction potential in the environmental footprint. 💰 However, despite the benefits, the costs of microbial applications currently outweigh the advantages, challenging their economic viability. 🔄 Microbial applications, as of now, don't enhance the overall sustainability of Dutch potato production. 📊 We quantify the effects and uncertainties of microbial applications, emphasizing the need for technological advancements for economic and environmental sustainability with a Monte Carlo simulation. 🚀 New Publication Alert! We are thrilled to announce our latest research paper, "Stakeholders’ Evaluation of Tissue Culture Plants: Evidence from Social, Economic, and Agronomic Studies," now available in The Journal of Horticultural Science and Biotechnology. 🔍 Highlights: This study provides a multi-focal review, i.e. a systematic review of social, economic and agronomic studies, to provide a comprehensive understanding of how stakeholders evaluate tissue culture plants (TCPs), and what factors determine farmers’ acceptance. 🌱 Key Findings: TCPs offer significant advantages in yield, growth parameters, and disease resistance. Social and economic evaluations reveal varied acceptance and adoption rates among different stakeholders. The importance of customized TCPs to local conditions and enhanced stakeholder collaboration for successful implementation. This research aims to inform evidence-based decision-making and promote the sustainable adoption of TCPs across various agricultural landscapes. 🚨Webinar April 16th: How, where and why alternative proteins will change farming In New Zealand Three scenarios show us how the rise of alternatives to animal proteins could change farming in Aotearoa by 2050. The Protein Future Scenarios research project, funded by the Our Land and Water National Science Challenge, investigated the potential impact on New Zealand of the global growth of new proteins that could compete with milk and meat products. The research team modelled the economic and environmental implications of three plausible future scenarios against a baseline scenario. The three future scenarios were based on different rates of technological advancement for the main alternative protein technologies, with associated growth in consumer demand.
