Celebrating Diversity in Building Inspections: A Woman's Perspective In a traditionally male-dominated field, I proudly embrace my role as a female building inspector. As a professional dedicated to ensuring construction and infrastructure safety, I bring a unique perspective that adds immense value to the job. In this post, I will explore the importance of diversity in this industry and how my presence as a woman in this field contributes to a more inclusive and effective approach. 1. Breaking Barriers and Challenging Stereotypes: As a female building inspector, I am breaking down stereotypes and challenging traditional gender roles. By entering a field typically dominated by men, I am proving that competence and expertise have no gender boundaries. My presence not only empowers other women who aspire to enter this profession but also fosters an environment of equality and acceptance within the industry. 2. A Different Approach to Building Inspection: My unique perspective as a woman brings fresh insights and alternative viewpoints to the table. I believe that diversity in building inspection allows for a more holistic assessment of projects. From communication styles to attention to detail, my approach often complements and enhances the existing practices, leading to better outcomes for all stakeholders involved. 3. Nurturing Trust and Collaboration: In a field that heavily relies on collaboration between professionals, my presence as a female building inspector encourages a more diverse range of voices and experiences to be heard. By embracing this diversity, we foster an atmosphere of trust and inclusion, where all perspectives are valued and contribute to the collective success of projects. 4. Empowering the Next Generation: By being a proud female building inspector, I aim to inspire and empower the next generation of women in this field. By showcasing that gender should never be a barrier to pursuing one's passion, I hope to encourage more young women to consider careers in building inspection and other traditionally male-dominated industries. Being a proud female building inspector allows me to challenge the status quo, bring a different perspective, and contribute to the overall excellence of the construction and infrastructure sectors. Diversity and inclusivity are paramount for progress in any industry, and building inspection is no exception. By embracing a more inclusive approach, we create safer, more resilient, and thriving built environments for generations to come. Together, let us celebrate and embrace the power of diversity in our professional endeavours.

Creating Environments where Success is Inevitable | Nuutology CEO and Co-Founder | Portfolio Advisor | Purpose Driven Revenue Leadership | Founder of The Sales Enablers and Passionate about the Future of Innovative Sales
This is exactly how our #cobotics systems can help… 🤖🚀 Jo Alsop highlights this problem for gas safe engineers… it’s a wider problem for the whole sector. How do we attract more people into theses roles?… Let’s start with underfloor insulation. Q-Bot Ltd have robotic applicators that can replace the need to go into voids that you can’t really fit into and spray insulation at a proximity you really shouldn’t be near at all! This opens up the possibilities of anyone from 18 to 81 operating this AND some of our best installers were previously CHEFs!!! Not from industry. That is how service robotics is changing the sector… making it more adaptable for cross Industry transferable skills and GAMERS 😊. There will be more to come… but rest assured this industry will be the place to be no matter what your age or gender.. #construction #robotics #transferableskills #skillsshortage #womeninconstruction

0.5% of Gas Safe engineers are women. The gender imbalance in domestic heating must be widest of any sector. We have 3,000 active heat pump installers today, we need 27,000 to fit 600k heat pumps in 2028. Gas engineers have a median age of 55 and two-fifths are planning to leave the workforce in the next 10 years. So a new coalition to improve diversity in the sector is good, but what we need is funded pathways for career-change women and for career change men, we can't rely on gas installers retraining, many of whom don't see the value in doing so.

Hoffman Women in Construction: Michal Ben Michael, Document Control Manager (Israel) Q: How has the field of construction changed for women in the past few years? A: The construction industry is becoming more inclusive and there are many new opportunities for women to take on leadership positions. Over the past few years we have seen more women in technical and executive positions at construction projects. Many companies are interested in retaining their employees by giving them the opportunities they deserve—regardless of their gender. Q: What have been some of the unexpected advantages you’ve experienced in construction? A: Every day on the construction site brings new and interesting challenges. Over the years I’ve learned to be creative, flexible, and bring solutions to unexpected situations. I’ve also learned that preparation and forethought makes for good results in the end. Q: What are some of the challenges you’ve overcome being a woman in construction? A: One of the challenges I’ve faced is bringing my individual perspective to an industry where most of my peers are men. It can take a few minutes to explain, share, and convince others that you have something valuable to bring to the table. #WomeninConstructionWeek #WomeninConstruction #wicweek #wicweek24 #womeninconstructionweek2024 #internationalwomensday #internationalwomensday24 #hoffmanbuilds

Completely agree with Jo here. A career change can be daunting but with the right guidance, it can be one of the best decisions you'll ever make. I would add that there is very little awareness of this career path at a college level. It would be good if we informed more people about how rewarding a career in this industry can be from a young age. As Jo mentioned, the median age of a gas engineer is 55 years old - I've expressed my concerns over the quality of training being issued by some government-funded providers in the past. What we should be doing is finding ways for these experienced workers to pass down their knowledge to the next generation instead of relying on online courses and retraining. #retrofit #recruitment #netzero
