Let's talk baseball... because it is America's favorite pastime. Although, I'd love to be cheering the Cincinnati Reds on during this post-season, let's get real for a second.
The Reds finished the season 82-80, an MLB-best 20-win improvement from last season. Going from 100 losses to a winning season... and the best thing about this is they did it with rookies, 16 to be exact. Most of the time, there were more rookies in the starting line-up than not.
Though they may have lacked experience, what they didn't lack was heart. They didn't lack hustle, grit, drive, and everything that it takes to be a great ball team.
When I think about marketing, especially, in the franchise space I think too many times we pass on the "rookie" for one reason or another. As I think about my career, I like to think I am the same as a rookie in this space. Although I may be newer to the franchising industry, and although Google decides to change its algorithm the moment I start to catch momentum... I too have the grit, heart, and determination to put in the work to have a successful career.
Here are some of my stats from this past year, that I am proud of too -
- I got promoted within my organization to create synergy and bring better ideas and tools to our franchise marketing team
- I never missed a deadline
- I asked for help when I didn't have the answer
- I personally attended 2 trainings/ networking events a month
- I was accepted into a mentorship program
- I read a book, (yes, this was a tough one for me)
- I turned to God and found that he will always provide in the most crucial moment
- I challenged myself to focus on one word this year, intentional. And I stood behind that in all of my decisions
- I became a better mom by not bringing home work and setting boundaries
- I set a goal to reach out to one person in the franchise industry every day. Even if it was a "cold" reach out to see who I could build connections with and improve my industry knowledge from.
If the Reds could lead MLB with the most come-from-behind wins (48) this year, I can certainly push myself through all the barriers to become exactly what I want to be for myself and my kids.
Cheers to the end of one season, and the beginning of a new one.
Now - let's hope my buckeyes can get it done for me this year!
