Someone with children who could use free clothing, has entered the chat: While it's commendable that 18,000 children received a season of clothing, it's equally disheartening that so many are in need—and surely, another 18,000 children could use similar assistance. I've said it before: parents need livable wages, hours that allow them to care for and build relationships with their children, and safe neighborhoods. In the words of Al Bundy, “You can’t have one without the other!” The crime in our community is directly linked to poverty, which stems from a lack of advancement and opportunity for marginalized individuals. This cycle repeats as parents are overworked, underpaid, and stressed in a constant struggle for survival. We need career opportunities as holiday charity. Instead of toy trucks, we need career opportunities for Giving Tuesdays, rather than endless roundtable discussions about recurring problems. A career is the gift that keeps on giving. A promotion that recognizes those of us who have invested time in acquiring new skills and have spent years developing transferable skills can make a world of difference. For many families, ending poverty is just one job offer away.

In Maricopa County, summer heat is deadly. A preliminary report from the Maricopa Association of Governments showed that 645 people died from heat-related illness in 2023, a 52% increase from 2022. Rebuilding Together Dutchess County continues to accept donations for the work we do… We focus on critical home repairs and accessibility modifications for neighbors in Dutchess and Ulster Counties. Please join us in supporting our cause as a central part of your mission this year. Those neighbors we have assisted reported feeling a restored sense of pride in their homes again. Prior to our support 86% of those neighbors reported having had trouble entering and exiting their homes - this is no longer a concern. In addition, nearly 70% planned to pass on their property to a family member, friend, or an important cause they wanted to support. The average annual household income of those whom we serve is just $24,916. Often this limited income must cover the needs of multiple individuals, including necessities like food and healthcare, aside from the essential home repairs, and safety needs. The amount of money donated to food bank charities has increased by 50% year on year, according to our research. This increase comes at a critical time, as the latest official statistics from the government reveal that 3.3% of households used a food bank within the last year. The operational costs for these essential charities have also increased due to the ongoing cost-of-living crisis. As a result, there is an urgent need for increased donations to ensure that they can continue to pay rent and to keep the lights on. “Small, but mighty” is something that couldn’t resonate with us more at Lewisham Donation Hub 💪 This week is #SmallCharityWeek and a time to celebrate the impact that small charities, like us, have on lives and communities.  We may not be a team of 1000s, but we support 1000s - and we couldn’t do it without the tireless efforts of our volunteers and the generous donations of individuals and companies. In the last 4 years, we have helped over 1,300 households in London. Support has included everything from food and toiletries, through to electrical items and clothing. This week, we’re proud to pledge alongside NCVO to show our LOVE for small charities: L - Listen and Learn: I will learn what small charities do in my neighbourhood. 0 - Organise: I will get my community involved with small charities.
