AI Industry Public Money, Private Glory? At tech events, where AI CEOs bask in the adoration, there's a conspicuous absence in the narrative: the role of public funding and research. These sectors haven't just sprung up through the ingenuity and perseverance of a few brilliant minds; they're the culmination of substantial public investment. Yet, you'd be hard-pressed to hear a word of thanks to taxpayers or governments at these glittering presentations. #AI #AIinSociety https://lnkd.in/gabsGVGe

Great post from Peter Thomas and a promising start to 2024 for businesses, communities and talent across the UK. The four big ideas (extracted below) hold great potential. They collectively could put to bed the “North/South divide”, “Inner city / rural barriers”, and many other excuses standing in the way of the United Kingdom leveraging the excellence, intelligence and potential locked up in the many thousands of people excluded from the technological arms race. The ‘four big ideas’ - A globally competitive tech talent pipeline in every region: ensuring the economy delivers opportunity for all and drives social mobility by unlocking tech talent. - Driving digital innovation at the foundations: ensuring every business can understand and benefit from the opportunities which tech brings. - A UK Innovation Policy which gives every place a chance: by embedding digital tech at the heart of regional development strategies and incentivising collaboration. - Mobilising ecosystems to help businesses to start and grow: by recognising that ‘place’ matters, and tech communities can underpin the success of devolution. #UKTechInnovation #DigitalEqualityUK #TechForAllRegions #UKTCGReport #DigitalGrowthUK #TechTalentPipeline #InclusiveTechPolicy

Thanks to David Dunn for the invite and to Alexandra Davies-Jones for hosting the launch of the UK Technology Cluster Group report at the House of Commons today. And to Saqib Bhatti MP and Matt Rodda MP for their comments on how to make the UK more digitally competitive. Great to hear more about the role AI will play in that which is particularly good news for Northumbria University given our recent announcement of a Doctoral Training centre for AI. Lots of exciting things to come in that area.

This fantastic #AI #Tech #RandD investment insight into the stifled growth of #Europe in comparison to #USA #China and #India is worth noting by Mark Minevich. #UK fairs somewhat better than #EU. All this is reminiscent of #Japan in the 1990s followed by lost decades. Whenever you think of #QBRAIN = #Quantum #Blockchain #Robotics #AI #Nanotech #IoT #Analogue #Consciousness think of DK Matai

Alarming Decline of European AI The rise and fall of empires is as old as time. However, in the digital age, the collapse of Europe's tech empire, especially in AI, is hardly surprising. Let's examine some hard revelations and face the confusing reality. 1. Staggering Lag - Europe's 🇪🇺 tech prowess is so far behind the US 🇺🇸 and China 🇨🇳 that it's not even on the same playing field anymore. This isn't a mere setback; what a massive power shift! 2. The R&D mistakes Don't be a fool. Europe 🇪🇺 might still be pouring money into R&D, but China's growth rate has been greatly exceeded. The dragon is flying, leaving Europe grounded. 3. Publication Crisis - Do you think US 🇺🇸 and China 🇨🇳 are slightly ahead of Europe in scientific publications? Think again! They are superior to the European contributions, casting a great shadow over Europe's once-ilustrustrios education heritage. 4. AI Abyss- When it comes to AI, Europe isn’t just trailing; it’s gasping for breath. US tech giants like Microsoft, AWS and Google dominate AI research so utterly that European efforts appear almost insignificant. 5. Inefficient funding. Europe's 🇪🇺 funding for AI doesn't even come close to that of the US 🇺🇸 and China 🇨🇳. We're not talking about a few billion dollars. We're highlighting a chasm so wide, it's staggering! 6. Stunning Venture Reality: Powerhouse economies like France 🇫🇷 and Germany 🇩🇪 are being dwarfed in venture funding. These giants are being outpaced, raising red flags about their future economic clout. 7. Lonely at the Top: Among the world's elite tech giants, only one, ASML, represents Europe 🇪🇺. And it's barely holding on at number 10. The silence of European tech giants is deafening. 8. Corporate Carnage: Europe's 🇪🇺 corporate realm is not just under threat; it's under siege, with American 🇺🇸 rivals relentlessly squeezing them out. 9. Size Matters: Remember 2008 when the US 🇺🇸 and Eurozone 🇪🇺 economies were of similar scales? Fast forward, and the US economy is now nearly DOUBLE. This isn't growth; it's an explosion next to Europe's crawl. 10. A Grim Glimpse: Goldman Sachs’ projection for 2075 reads more like a dystopian future for Europe. The continent doesn’t just miss the top 3 spots; it’s absent from the top 20! It's high time Europe confronted these glaring disparities. The continent isn't just at risk of becoming a tech backbencher; it's already there.
