Concrete Champion and Executive Director at the Connecticut Concrete Promotion Council

And we are off...! Shadow Intern Fridays have begun! What the heck are you talking about Dom, you ask? Well, my sidekick for the next two months of Fridays will be another Dominic! Dominic Leoncini, is a sophomore CIM (Concrete Industry Management) major in the Chico State CIM program. Dominic was selected by Crystal Howard Skate4Concrete and New Line Skateparks to be a Summer intern on the construction of a #concrete skatepark in Torrington, Connecticut. Dom2 (as we all call him to avoid confusion) will be physically working Monday through Thursday with New Line to help construct the skatepark. On Fridays, he gets to shadow me where we have a number of great site tours and visits planned with Connecticut Concrete Promotion Council members. These Fridays are planned to show Dominic many of the phases of construction and of concrete production. It is also an opportunity to see the diverse construction career paths one can take in the construction industry. The city of Torrington also happens to be the headquarters city of O&G Industries, Inc., one of my Connecticut Ready Mixed Concrete Association members. Many thanks go out to T.J. Oneglia, Beth Dupont, Madison Blanchard, Chris Cotulio and Brian Pracuta of O&G Industries, Inc. for welcoming us. Dominic's day last Friday included a tour of the O&G Industries, Inc. corporate headquarters, then a tour of the new Torrington High School which included several visits to some very cool mechancial rooms and even a "skywalk" on scaffolding erected over what will be a huge auditorium. We even managed to catch a concrete sidewalk placement in the courtyard. After our tour of the high school, we moved down the road to O&G Industries Bogue Road facility which includes a quarry operation, asphalt and concrete production. We met with Chris Cotulio, Materials Sustainability manager there. From there we headed South and West (after a stop for lunch) to O&G's Southbury operations which includes an aggregate yard, asphalt plants, a concrete Plant, and quarries & recycling operation. It was a very busy day, Dominic asked some great questions along the way. Be watching for weekly updates and features. We have even more in store for Dominic in the coming weeks. With thanks to New Line Skateparks' Chris Tagliarina for taking care of Dominic 2!
