Thank you for this interesting summary. I agree that this is a crucial time for public sources to step up and ensure that progress on climate innovations (including alt protein) is able to continue and advance. Our planet simply does not have time to lose the traction that’s been made. Having said that, unlike private capital, in my opinion public resources should always consider how its financial support facilitates transition to equitable food systems with a broad base of winners. Investments should always prioritize innovations that strengthen general resilience across our global populations and hesitate to propel concentration in this sector by the few. While it’s clear that the big fish will likely gobble up the little guys in this climate, public funds need to consider how to drive equitability and people’s ownership with its support. It’s a good time to think about this against a backdrop of debate on monopolistic challenges in the tech sector. Let our transitions to future food systems be an avenue for re-democratization of the value chains that feed us in novel ways. Perhaps the silver lining might be that, now more than ever, the strength of consumer choice will float the strongest innovations through this more challenging time. #peopleschoice
