Honoring the resilience and strength of those who came before us. Happy Juneteenth! Let us remember, reflect, and continue the journey towards true freedom and equality for all. We are also still in a struggle to protect our freedoms; therefore, we must continue to advocate for the rights of our people and marginalized voices. This Juneteenth, we encourage you and your family to use your voice and actions for good. Here are a few ideas: 1. Support a Black-owned business. 2. Host or participate in a Juneteenth event. 3. Visit a museum chronicling African American history and culture. 4. Celebrate Juneteenth and Black culture through food, music, clothing, literature, and art. 5. Do artwork or crafts with your children honoring African American heritage. 6. Watch an educational program about Juneteenth with your family. 7. Support www.fearless.fund.

Gotta boost up reading speeds and vocabulary while investing in having home libraries. You must show and give a good show. You must do and do well. Teach speed reading, vocabulary building, typing, penmanship, literary symbolism, et al. I met one of the those white soldiers who was ordered to Little Rock's Central High School to open up the segregated school doors. Very few homes in America have libraries in them, even if the people are so-called affluent folks. Please don't give the BS about the Internet and computer files and e-books, et al. The average person on uses about a 600 word vocabulary! The English language now has at least 1 million words and each year stills add 50,000 or more words! Fess up! Best wishes. #homelibraries #libraries #researchlibraries #collegelibraries #essays #universitylibraries #privatelibraries #publiclibraries #books #memoryskills #bookcollecting #reading #speedreading #rapidreading #englishgrammar #vocabularybuilding #study #topics #subjects #magazines #newspapers #writing #termpapers #researchpapers #research #pupils #students #collegestudents #blackstudents #parents #homeenvironment #educators #hbcus #schooldropouts #problemsolving #diction #dictionary #speech #learning #knowledge #backgroundknowledge #churches #politicians #civilrights #heritage #publicschools #classroom #memoryskills #learningachievement #blackcommunity #homelearning #miseducation #highschooldropouts #collegedropouts #readingcomprehension #testtaking #learningdeficency #jobhunting #employment #verbalskills #genocide #naacp #nationalurbanleague #urbanleague
It is my responsibility as an educator and a keeper of Black history to fight back during this vicious attack on our school system. As state legislators attempt to ban African American history from the curriculum, it is imperative that we make it accessible in other ways... 🎯 Yes, we fight at the ballot box and at the school board meetings. But we also empower ourselves and our families by reading, writing, and continuing to tell our stories. 📚 Buy books for your household and for others who may not be able to afford them. Read with youth in your family and community--make sure they know their history. For example, here is an excellent memoir by Melba Patillo Beals--one of the Little Rock Nine--who desegregated Central High School in Little Rock Arkansas in 1957. It is an excellent read for young adults. Keecha Harris, DrPH, RD Jarvis Sam Barrye Brown Barbara Combs Timothy Fields Anjulet Tucker, Ph.D. (she/her) Walter C. Rucker Derrick R. 📢 February is Black History Month, a great opportunity to celebrate and honor the many achievements throughout U.S. history. Here are some facts about Black History Month and how it came to be: ➡️ Why February? To coincide with the birthdays of Abraham Lincoln and Frederick Douglass. President Lincoln, of course, was the 16th U.S. president and paved the way for the abolition of slavery with his Emancipation Proclamation. Douglass was an escaped slave turned activist and author, and a prominent leader in the abolitionist movement to end slavery. ➡️ President Gerald Ford officially recognized Black History Month in 1976, calling upon the public to “seize the opportunity to honor the too-often neglected accomplishments of Black Americans in every area of endeavor throughout our history.” ➡️ Since 1976, every American president has designated February as Black History Month and endorsed a specific theme. ➡️The theme for Black History Month 2024 focuses on “African Americans and the Arts”. This theme is infused with African, Caribbean, and the Black American lived experiences. In the fields of visual and performing arts, literature, fashion, folklore, language, film, music, architecture, culinary and other forms of cultural expression the African-American influence has been paramount. African-American artists have used art to preserve history and community memory as well as for empowerment. In 2024, we examine the varied history and life of African-American arts and artisans. #blackhistorymonth #diversityequityinclusion
