Can your customers find your products online? Because they are constantly searching. They use Google to search. They use search across numerous retail and marketplace sites. When they hit your site, they use your onsite search. If your products don't appear in search, they aren't getting purchased. Here are 5 steps to ensure your products are findable. 1. Create a centralized source of truth for product data PIM helps standardize your data, which is critical for onsite search. 2. Conduct customer research You must understand the language your customers use if you want to make content findable for them. 3. Optimize for Google Conduct keyword research and be mindful of the phrases you want your product pages to rank for. 4. Optimize for retailer & marketplace sites Send them the data they require in the format they want. 5. Optimize for your own ecommerce website Accurate, consistent data reduces confusion across channel searches. As someone trying to improve your ecommerce ecosystem, you want to be sure you’re spending your time and money wisely. And there is no “magic bullet” solution to search optimization. It may be tempting to rip and replace your current onsite search engine, but if your product data is lacking, that won’t work. There is no substitute for doing things the right way. Ecommerce is about connecting your business to people who want to buy your products. It is critical to take the time to optimize your product data.
