The joint venture between Navantia Seanergies and Windar Renovables has loaded out the first XXL monopiles for the Scottish #MorayWest offshore wind farm. For the joint venture, which the developer OW Ocean Winds contracted to deliver 14 out of the total of 60 wind turbine monopiles, these are the first monopiles that were manufactured at their new plant in Fene, A Coruña, Spain. The structures, weighing 2,000 tonnes each, will now set sail to #Scotland, according to OW Ocean Winds' post on social media. The Moray West offshore wind farm, scheduled for operation in 2025, will comprise 60 Siemens Gamesa 14.7 MW wind turbines and two offshore substations, all installed on monopile foundations, with Dajin Heavy Industry Corporation delivering the remaining 48. All of the 62 transition pieces for the offshore foundations will be manufactured and delivered by Lamprell. Navantia Seanergies and Windar Renovables revealed back in 2021 that they would build a factory for XXL monopiles on the grounds of the Fene shipyard in #Spain. The announcement came after Iberdrola closed a EUR 400 million framework agreement with the partnered companies for future offshore wind farms. The new factory was built in a part of Navantia Seanergies' shipyard in Fene where it does not interfere with the production of other offshore wind structures, such as jackets and floating foundations. #renewableenergy #offshorewind #carbon60 #engineering #energy #wind

The joint venture behind the Salamander Floating Wind project and the UK developer of marine buoyancy technology, Tugdock, have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to collaborate on research and innovation related to the development of technologies and supply chain for floating wind energy in Scotland. The 100 MW floating wind farm, developed jointly by Simply Blue Group and Ørsted, and Subsea7 as a minority partner, is one of the 13 projects selected in Scotland's Innovation and Targeted Oil and Gas (INTOG) leasing round and one of the five INTOG innovation projects which signed exclusivity agreements with The Crown Estate Scotland in May. The pre-commercial-size floating wind farm will be located 35 kilometres off the coast of Peterhead in North-East Scotland and is planned to deploy innovative floating offshore wind technologies to support the cost reduction and learning journey needed for the commercial deployment of floating offshore wind. The MOU with Tugdock brings in the Cornwall-based company's technology into the mix, which enables floating wind foundations to be built or assembled, and the turbines integrated, in ports that have water depth or space restrictions. The technology consists of a modular road transportable space frame with the use of air lift bags that are filled and then vented using compressed air. By confining the air lift bags into a space frame configuration and deck arrangement, the technology can be used as additional buoyancy modules or submersible platforms, according to the company, which recently also entered into a partnership with the US-based company Crowley to explore the potential use of the Tugdock Submersible Platform (TSPs) in locations such as the US West Coast. #renewableenergy #wind #engineering #carbon60 #offshorewind #energy

Super cool initiative BUT you're going to need to provide for a goodly amount of battery storage, rather than harvest power "live" from the turbine. This is so because on breezy days, the turbine will be generating lots of juice, which is nice, but holding the vessel in place via anchor or DP will be that much more challenging. Lots of windage and sea state to contend with. Instead, you're going to want to carry out the recharging procedure on a nice mild day. But the turbine won't have much to offer, electron-wise, in those conditions. Ergo, you need a battery ... and a mighty big one at that, at least if you're talkin' sizable vessels. Anyhow, if you've ever seen a video of a relief operation for an offshore lighthouse (cf. https://lnkd.in/erzXARxf), this calls to mind some similar issues!

The NextFloat Project has secured a ‘cornerstone grant’ of €13.4m from the European Commission’s Innovation Fund supporting the industrialisation of floating wind. Led by a consortium formed by X1 Wind, as project coordinator, alongside Technip Energies and NextFloat project Plus S.A.S, it will involve the deployment of a 6MW floating wind platform at a test site in Mediterranean Sea. 𝗩𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘆𝗮𝗿𝗱 𝗪𝗶𝗻𝗱 𝟭 𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗯𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗶𝘀𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘁 The installation of GE’s Haliade-X 13 MW #windturbines at the Vineyard Wind 1 offshore #windproject site in Massachusetts is expected to start next week, according to WCVB Channel 5 Boston and other US media who reported on updates shared by AVANGRID’s project team during a boat tour of the #VineyardWind site earlier this week. The 806 MW #offshorewindfarm could feed first power into the grid as soon as mid-October before it is fully commissioned next year, NBC Boston reports. #Vineyard Wind 1, owned by the joint venture between #Avangrid and Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP), is located 15 miles (24 kilometres) off the coast of Martha’s Vineyard and is the first commercial-scale offshore #windfarm to be approved for construction in the US. The #offshorewind farm will feature 62 Haliade-X 13 MW turbines to be installed by DEME Group using its vessel #SeaInstaller which, according to the vessel’s AIS data, is currently en route to the port of Halifax, Canada.
