In my 12 years in this field, I've recruited everyone – from dental decons and nurses to managers, dentists, and orthodontists. The urgency to keep treatments on track sometimes morphs into desperate hires from a limited talent pool. The outcome? Sometimes disastrous. You see, the busy pace of a dental practice doesn't leave much room for 'trial and error'. The endless work tasks and urgent rush to get 'bums on seats' takes over strategic decision making, and problems begin stacking up like a house of cards. As the industry grapples with talent shortages and unrealistic pay demands, the pressure mounts on the remaining team. Loyalty starts chiselling away under the weight of resentment and fatigue. And so the hiring complexity deepens. When you have a candidate readily available but doubt their fit with the existing team, do you take a chance? But it's not all grim... Preparation is key.
