As an awards body, we don't just look to celebrate others doing great things; we want to ensure we're doing what we can to 'walk the talk' too. One of the ways we do this is by supporting the amazing work of Cool Earth: - we donate 1% of all turnover from sponsorship, entry fees and ticket sales, - we give a £5 donation per paid entry via their clever CarbonCork initiative - we help to protect rainforest canopies via their carbon capture projects, to match the emissions from our event that we aren’t able to remove. We're delighted that we can play this small part in helping Cool Earth to work with communities from the Amazon to Papua New Guinea in finding creative solutions to rainforest protection - solutions that reduce deforestation rates by up to 82%. In the Amazon, where illegal mining threatens lives and nature, a community has started sustainable fish farming. This project is not only providing food but also offering an economic alternative to practices that destroy rainforest. It shows how supporting local ideas can address global challenges. Meanwhile, in Papua New Guinea, a water and sanitation project is having rainforest-saving benefits. Health centres are seeing fewer patients, showing how basic improvements can have a big impact on people's health and the environment. You can read all the updates here (and THANK YOU, Cool Earth, for everything you're doing 💚 ) >> https://lnkd.in/giaiC-Qt

In 2023 we made a difference with our Treevolution initiative. We ran 12 eco-missions, planted trees, protected hedgehogs, walked many kilometres, and raised close to £10,000 through both our 10k for 10k trees and MaDD23 sponsored events. This has resulted in a bumper year for our initiative as we have planted almost 5,500 trees with our partners at the Yorkshire Dales Millennium Trust and National Forest Foundation. This brings our Treevolution total to a whopping 16,987 trees planted so far, and we have ambitious plans to hit our target of 25,000 trees by the end of 2024. #sustainability #inspiration #transformation

ONLY 10K TO 70 000 000 LITRES💧 We are so close to reaching our goal! With just 10 000€ more, we can save this 42-hectare wetland area near Čiližská Radvaň, which has the capacity to hold up to 70 000000 (seventy million) litres of water. Let's do this! 😊 We are fund-raising up to 100 000 € for its permanent protection and inclusion into the protected areas system, and thanks to your donations, we have already reached a remarkable 90% of the target amount. 🎉 🎉 🎉 We only need 10 000 € more and will protect this beautiful, vast, water- and biodiversity-rich area in the middle of agricultural fields. Please support saving the wetland or reshare this post. We will be grateful. A link to the collection, including a description of this location, can be found here: https://lnkd.in/egdZEu-t -SVK https://lnkd.in/e2matdaT - ENG Several videos of visits with experts can be found on our YouTube channel: https://lnkd.in/ewQPkVTf Make no mistake - we have 90,000 euros in the Slovak and English collections added together (there is no other way to create this on the Darujme portal). #saveawetland #restorenature #conservationmatters #BROZ

The Scottish Government has published its National Litter and Flytipping Strategy, setting out its new approaches to enhancing the environment. It says society has a collective responsibility to tackle litter and is calling on local authorities, businesses, charities, community groups and individuals to support behaviour change. The latest annual Scottish Litter Survey shows 67% of respondents believe litter is a problem in their local area, with 87% saying it is a Scotland-wide issue. The strategy goes on to examine three key topics: behaviour change; infrastructure and services; enforcement. At Broxap we have solid working relationships with a number of key stakeholders in Scotland such as local authorities to support the development of litter and recycling infrastructure. As winner in the Environmental Practices category of the Scotland Excel Awards, our own sustainable manufacturing processes and contribution towards a circular economy has been recognised. We’re working to keep existing materials and resources in circulation for longer – and we can help our partners in Scotland to do that too with litter bin and recycling bin infrastructure which is fit for purpose, encourages responsible behaviour, proactively prevents litter and supports a circular economy. Contact our product sales specialist Sharon Mitchell to talk about how Broxap can support targeted interventions such as recycling-on-the-go campaigns. #streetfurniture #litterbins #bins #recycling #recyclingbins

Check out BBC StoryWorks’ film about Urchinomics’ collaboration with Purina Europe to restore kelp forests in Norway!
Supporting native oyster restoration in the #UK and #europe with oyster spat! To all our #oysterreef and ecosystem #restoration friends, I would like to share this post from my friend Dr Nik Sachlikidis about The Oyster Restoration Company’s initiative to amplify #native European oyster reef restoration initiatives. In short, to accelerate #learning and ultimately scalable restoration, The Oyster Restoration Company is looking to collaborate with oyster restoration initiatives in the UK and Europe. The Oyster Restoration Company is offering to contribute their oyster spat for the 2024 season, to mission aligned partners who wish to both advance the science, best practices, and scale their oyster restoration efforts. Native European Flat Oysters are a keystone and foundational species, providing various ecosystem services that support life in our oceans. However, due to overfishing, climate change and pollution, over 95% of native oysters in Europe have been wiped out, and we (again) have pushed this species to the brink of extinction. Bringing the native species back and rebuilding oyster reefs is as imperative as restoring kelp forests, sea grass meadows and mangrove forests! For those interested to learn more about this initiative, please reach out to the contact information at the bottom of the link. #restorativeseafood #restorativeaquaculture #oceans #ecosystemservices #mission #oysters #partnerships #bluecarbon #biodiversity #filter
Day 3 @NORA5 brought thrilling insights as Nik Sachlikidis shared our vision for saving oyster reefs through a science-meets-impact-investor-based approach to commercial restorative aquaculture. His talk was met with resounding success as part of the "Stakeholder Involvement" session. In his talk, Nik dived deep into the problems and processes of reintroducing and restoring native oysters. The first major hurdle for the Oyster Restoration Company was Bonamia screening, ensuring disease-free broodstock and quick deployment of targeted capital resolved this bottleneck. Following significant scale-up in 2022, we are now on track to produce over 100M oyster per year from 2024. Our focus is now on the deployment of these oysters to accelerate our restorative mission and we are actively seeking partnerships with mission-aligned groups. Nik said: "We are excited to announce at NORA5 that we will be supporting mission-aligned partners by donating out spat in 2024. By supporting community restoration projects, we aim to leave a lasting impact on native oyster populations." In light of #earthday, our charity partner Rainforest Trust UK has set a goal to permanently safeguard 20 million acres of intact forest — an area the size of Scotland — in the Brazilian Amazon over four years. Rainforests are the lungs of our Earth and the largest, most important is the Amazon rainforest. Rainforest Trust will partner with local Brazilian organisations to defend these vulnerable areas from deforestation by designating forests as protected areas and Indigenous territories. Land grabbing, illegal mining, and forest fires threaten the Brazilian Amazon from thriving. Without demarcating these boundaries for Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities, the lush, verdant Amazon we know today will irreversibly flip into a dry, barren savannah. Conserving this globally vital forest can safely lock up 6 billion metric tonnes of CO₂ equivalents which equates to more than 14 times the UK’s annual total CO₂ emissions. For one week only they are teaming up with The Big Give to raise £35,000 which will be quadrupled so that a total of £140,000 goes towards conserving rainforest in the vast yet disappearing Brazilian Amazon. Find out more about their fundraising campaign here⤵ https://lnkd.in/eX-rxgru
