We are turning the natural raw material lignin into a refined, high quality, renewable chemical product. The secret of our wood-based Renewable Functional Filler is in its particles, which are specifically designed to provide strength and grip alongside a significantly improved sustainability performance.   🚗 Now, Nokian Tyres is introducing the first tire ever made with UPM BioMotion™ RFF. In the tire all fossil carbon black in the tire’s sidewalls is replaced by the new renewable raw material, that has the potential to replace even more of the carbon black currently used in tire production thus lowering carbon emissions in tire manufacturing.   📅 The first concept tire containing UPM BioMotion™ RFF will be exhibited at the German rubber industry conference DKT 2024 in Nürnberg, Germany, from July 1 – 4 at our booth 527 in Hall 9. The German industry body highlights the lack of key information being provided regarding reporting under the EU deforestation regulation. ·        Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) will introduce Pirelli tires that are certified by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) across its range of vehicles. This decision aligns with Jaguar Land Rover's commitment to using responsibly sourced materials and ensuring traceability in its supply chain. ·        Shinryo Corporation is enhancing its dry room proposals, with a focus on next-generation batteries. The company will emphasize the design and construction of dry rooms essential for manufacturing lithium-ion secondary batteries (LiBs) and other products. ·        Sumitomo Chemical aims to transform into a leading provider of agricultural platforms. ·        Japan CRO Association: Dedicated to aligning Japan's clinical trial environment with international standards. The Tokyo Metropolitan Government is emphasizing the importance of proper use and awareness to address this issue effectively. ·        Daicel has finished building an ultra-compact chemical plant at its Arai Plant in Myoko City, Niigata Prefecture. This plant is designed for desktop production of resist resin, which is essential for creating semiconductor circuits. ·        Tosoh's Kiuchi is focused on ongoing research into the local production and consumption of PVC in Southeast Asia. While Tosoh's chlor-alkali business is profitable, it is encountering significant challenges such as increased costs stemming from investments in decarbonization efforts. ·        Nokian and UPM collaborate to incorporate wood-based fillers in tires.  The Finnish tire manufacturer is licensing its patent to UPM to supply renewable raw materials to the tire industry ·        

Reducing our carbon footprint with #CircleGreen: A first delivery of the towards-zero stainless steel by Outokumpu was received in our Purem by Eberspächer Wilsdruff plant. 🌱 Here, the more sustainable stainless steel will now be processed into commercial vehicle #ExhaustSystems with a reduced CO2 footprint. The intensified cooperation between Outokumpu and Purem by Eberspächer underlines our joint goal of reducing emissions and driving corporate environmental responsibility. Orion S.A. is installing TPO tanks at its Polish facility in Jaslo. Jaslo is the company's smallest furnace carbon black production facility. It has a production capacity of 40 ktps, which makes it an ideal location for the production of renewable and circular furnace carbon blacks. Within the BLACKCYCLE project, the company produced circular furnace carbon blacks directly from 100% refined tire pyrolysis oil ("TPO") produced by Pyrum Innovations AG and GREENVAL TECHNOLOGIES SL, whereas many other carbon black companies use ISCC mass balance attribution of green credentials. I support mass balance attribution because I believe that it can help the industry start producing circular carbonblack products from very small available volumes of TPO feedstock on the big furnace production lines and without building separate TPO specific supply chains. But I also understand that this practice is criticised as "greenwashing" by NGOs such as Zero Waste Europe. We had a great panel discussion about this at the EuRIC - The European Recycling Industries tire recycling meeting this year.¹ In this context, Orion S.A.'s installation of TPO tanks will provide the company a unique value proposition, because it's circular furnace carbon blacks will be physically made from 100% TPO at product level. At Jaslo, Orion S.A. can even receive truck load deliveries of TPOs. I believe that this practice can help the consumer and buyer of tires to better understand and trust tire producers sustainability claims. Hopefully, the trust then transforms eventually in a willingness to pay more for sustainable products. How to recycle 5,000 tons of wind blades in just one plant. During JEC World 2024 I came across a very promising project funded by the European Commission that I'd like to bring to your attention. Read more about the project here: https://lnkd.in/eiw6ba2D One of our society's huge problems in the future will be the aging of windturbine blades. Each of these blades contain usually 8 metric tons of fibreglass. Add the resin then you see the scale of problem that we will be facing or are already facing. In this video I interviewed Giorgio Betteto of Gees Recycling. We start of by inspecting some samples he brought along of recycled composites that feature very solid surfaces. These are hard as ceramic and therefore not only water repellant, but also such impact proof that the can be used as floor tiles. See the pictures attached in the video.
