IRON, OCEANS, CLIMATE Jonathan Lauderdale is an oceanographer and ocean climate modeler at MIT, the alma mater of Peter Fiekowsky, who is now promoting research into the effects of sprinkling iron into oceans. It makes phytoplankton multiply, which removeds CO2 from the air, so that some of it sinks and sequesters carbon. Migration is complex, and rarely is there only one single factor why people leave their homes. That’s especially true when climate change is involved, since its impacts on internal and international migration are often indirect and hard to trace. So when we talk about climate migration, what exactly do we mean? Kerilyn Schewel of the Duke University Program on Climate-Related Migration joins our podcast Changing Climate, Changing Migration to help make sense of the issue and why the terminology matters.
