For many friends and acquaintances, this year will be the first time they vote in the national elections. Quite a few asked me in the last couple of weeks who to vote for.
Whilst I have no political party to recommend you to vote for, I'd like to mention that the journey of a "new" Luxembourger -like me and you who moved as an adult to this beautiful country we all call home- is very different of that of people who were born here and attended the Luxembourgish school system. Our challenges are very different. Let's take for example the challenge of learning 1, 2 or 3 new languages, in addition to adapting to a new country, a new job, finding new friends and building a new support group... Someone who was raised with the 3 official languages of Luxembourg at home, or even more, cannot truly understand this type of challenge, and I've heard many many many comments on this subject which validate my view.
Therefore, if you came as an adult to Luxembourg, I recommend you to have a look at the candidates whose journey is similar to ours.
However, don't let yourselves fooled by the fact that a candidate has a foreign name. Some people were preferred as candidates because they have a foreign name, even though they are born and raised in Luxembourg, with all the privileges that come with that, such as mastering minimum 4 languages since childhood.
Do a bit of personal research before you go to the polling centers on the 8th of October. Your vote can truly make the difference and help some people like you and I to get elected.
On Sunday 01/10 I will interview
