Pride 2024🏳️🌈: “From the Streets to the Heart.” Thousands of LGBTQIA youths in NYC experience homelessness. Dutch photographer Ernst Coppejans captured 30 people and their courageous stories. Presented by Photoville and our FUTURE 400 program, the project showcases the resilience, courage and beauty of those who have been marginalized and made invisible by society. We honored Ernst Coppejans and non-profit New Alternatives, together with Photoville, at our 2024 Pride event in the heart of the West Village. The project offers a thoughtful understanding of their experiences, provides a voice to those who have been voiceless and allows the world to understand the challenges they face on a daily basis. The project serves as a powerful call to action, demanding attention to the urgent need for positive change Visit the exhibition at Horatio & Hudson Streets through September and hear all the stories here: https://lnkd.in/gKWqmU-N

Offshore wind is a rapidly growing market here in New York State💨🍃 The Consulate hosted offshore wind professionals and communities for a summer networking reception to connect on the many opportunities this offers for both NL and the US. Together with our partners Offshore Wind Innovation Hub, the South Street Seaport Museum, and NYU Tandon School of Engineering, we welcomed our network at the tall ship Wavertree. Consul General Ahmed Dadou: “Offshore wind brings out many Dutch strengths. We are famous for Dutch design and offer an ecological approach to developing and installing wind turbine components. We cannot do this alone. Like every complex process – especially in Energy Transitions – we do this collaboratively, with other companies, with governments, with researchers and experts around the world, like the people that gathered tonight.” The sector is booming in northeast USA. Late 2023 New York State activated the first commercial scale offshore wind park in the Empire State. And just last week a new NY State project Beacon Wind received its final federal permit. Already more than 20 Dutch companies are actively working to help to build these projects in the USA. The Consulate provides support and advice in this process to establish and grow the US-based supply chain of professionals, trades, equipment and service providers. #Netherlands #innovation #sustainability

From clean tech startups, to shared history and the High Line. King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima explored the many ways the Netherlands and New York City are connected, on their last day in the US. 🟠After their visit to East Flatbush, where they talked with about community engagement and small businesses, the Royal Couple joined the startup event “Accelerating Clean Tech for the Energy Transition” at deeptech innovation center Newlab in Brooklyn. Dutch entrepreneurs Veenerick Vos Van Liempt, Chief Growth Officer at TARFORM - Mobility of Tomorrow and Arjen De Jong, founder of AirTulip, shared some of the differences with doing business in and scaling internationally to New York, while Newlab CEO Cam Lawrence and Brooklyn Navy Yard Development Corporation President Lindsay Greene talked about the support ecosystem required to bring critical technologies that address some of our biggest challenges to market. 🔴At the New-York Historical Society, King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima visited the exhibition “New York Before New York: The Castello Plan of New Amsterdam,” Curator Russell Shorto and NYHS president Louise Mirrer explained about the Dutch history of the city, including the dark pages. With Cultural Affairs Commissioner Laurie Cumbo they talked about how NYC marks 400 years of New York City and its Dutch shared history. ⚪️The New York High Line, a public park designed by Piet Oudolf, is celebrating its 15th anniversary this year. Situated on an elevated train track, this park is a showcase for the redevelopment and innovative use of public space. The Royal Couple was given a tour by Friends of the High Line executive director Alan van Capelle and met young people from the High Line Teen Employment Program. 🔵The King and Queen welcomed New York Mayor Eric Adams at a reception in Hudson Yards. When in Brooklyn… King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima briefly stopped at the Brooklyn Promenade, famous for its iconic views of the Brooklyn Bridge and New York skyline, including the Statue of Liberty. Brooklyn was named after the Dutch town of Breukelen. “There may be finer views than this in the world, but I don’t believe it,” said President Abraham Lincoln in 1864 about this view.

1wHi! Nice to see this post! Kudos to Ernst! On a different -- but Dutch -- topic: If anyone reading these comments is Dutch, I have a request. I'm doing an article on the Dutch tradition of "Dropping" kids in the woods. I love this! I am a longtime champion of more childhood independence. (Google me!) If you did a "Dropping" when younger or your kids are doing one now, can I interview you? I'm writing this for Reason Magazine and also for my blogs, FreeRangeKids.com and LetGrow.org. My # is 646 734 8426 and my email is Lskenazy at Yahoo.com. Thanks!
