Here is one of my experiences where a specific ask changed my life. 👇 When I finished business school in Vienna, Austria, I attended a cocktail class with my class and the executive MBA class. I met a gentleman who worked at OPEC and he asked me what I wanted to do. Rather than giving a vague answer, I was very specific. I said, 'I want to work in Vienna with a local company and live here.' His response was... Interestingly, one of my classmates just became the business unit president for his company, and he's looking for talented people. I should introduce the two of you. Two weeks later, I had a call with his classmate, and he offered me a summer internship where I traveled to many of their worldwide offices. At the end of the summer, I was offered a full-time position; they sponsored my work visa and paid to relocate my household to Austria. The rest is history. I learned a new language and what it's like to immigrate to a new country. I got a world-class course on business and life. Negotiated with some of the biggest companies in the world. Made lifelong friends. My advice is to be as specific as possible with your next ask. Be careful! You're likely to get it. #bespecific #askforwhatyouwant

McGovern was a panelist at the Employability Plenary during June’s International Internship Conference in Dublin. 🎓 Facilitated by Dr. Maureen Manning from The PIE, the theme was “Cultivating Global Professionals: Exploring Key Factors in Post-Graduation Employability.” 💬 We’d love to hear your thoughts on these three standout points that were made during the panel: 🔺 𝗣𝗼𝗶𝗻𝘁 𝟭: Early exposure to travel is important. 📅 Only one week left until the doors open to the annual Global Internship Conference (GIC)! 🎉 This year, experts and enthusiasts will gather to discuss the crucial topic of "Collaborating to Shape Future Talent." 🌟   🤝 When I first heard about the GIC, I was excited to meet new talents and learn from other companies about their approaches to attracting interns. But I soon realized that this event is much more than that. It's a platform where representatives from governments, educational institutions, enterprises, and talents come together to exchange ideas, learn from each other, and explore ways to collaborate more effectively.   🍰 I've experienced firsthand the value of internships, from my first internship at a confectionary, where I was amazed by the precision and interactive dance of the pastry chefs, to my later internships, where I noticed my growth and development. 🤔  In my professional life, recruiting interns has always been a team effort to create appealing job ads and offer extra incentives. However, this was not necessarily an effort across different teams, even less so considering its relevance for the educational sector and a country.    💡 Now, I'm thrilled to have the opportunity to broaden my horizons and hear from governments and education about their approaches to shaping talent.    🌱 This is us opening the plenary.
