🤝 William Thomson and Fleeming Jenkin meet again! Earlier this year, we announced the order of a sister vessel for our XL cable-laying vessel Fleeming Jenkin. Today we officially reveal her name - William Thomson. In the 19th century, William Thomson and Fleeming Jenkin both made important contributions to the transatlantic telegraph cable. As forerunners of the offshore cable industry and good colleagues, their names are a perfect fit for our future XL cable-laying vessels. ⚡️With these two powerhouses, we will be able to connect countries and continents over longer distances. Just hit my 1000th pile in my career – a remarkable bidirectional O-Cell pile! A bidirectional O-Cell pile, unlike traditional piles, is tested using an innovative O-Cell technology. This method involves placing a hydraulic jack within the pile itself, enabling us to load and test the pile in two directions simultaneously. The benefits are substantial: increased accuracy in load testing, reduced need for extensive overlying structures, and more precise data on the pile's performance under stress.

For us at NKT Service & Installation the repair of the Baltic Cable interconnector – a 250 kilometer long power cable interconnecting the power grids of Sweden and Germany – in just 29 days is such an occasion. What happened: At the end of April 2020, a cable section was damaged due to external impact. "Time and accuracy are crucial for the success of power cable service operations and, here, we clearly demonstrated that we are quick and efficient when mobilizing our equipment and skilled repair team." states Axel Barnekow Widmark, Head of Service at NKT.
