On the 7th October, I thought I'd failed. A few months ago, I wanted to create brand awareness for my brand BTW.Automotive. So I participated in a Malaysia event called Motormaniac Encore Edition. It's an event where people can come and showcase their cars and brands to create exposure in the car scene. I had the perfect line-up to showcase my brand where I'm gonna showcase the projects bikes that we design. The problem we face is that we can't get it ready by 7th October. So I wanted to pull the plug. Just nice, 1 week before the event. I had an idea to just ask my Msia friends to join me in building my brand in Malaysia. They were on board and willing to spend the 3 days with me to create brand awareness. When we reached the event site, people were wondering where BTW came from and when we told them that we are Singapore-based. They were all excited and wanted to know more about us and what we do. It was heartwarming because the crowd at the event was very supportive. I thought this event would be a failure for my brand, but to be honest. Without taking a leap of faith, I wouldn't know the results. Just by this event, we managed to get a few interesting clients that want to work with us. I also learned that, no matter what. Some brands just embody fun – it’s in their DNA. MINI is one of those brands. So, when the automotive icon asked the søster team to create a brand experience that would bring its playful personality to life, there was really only one place to go: Tokyo 🇯🇵 A fully integrated campaign that required transformative experiences, creative concepting, event management, communications and a strong visual identity, the entire project was tied together with a wonderfully constructed narrative inspired by the Japanese concept of ‘Inyo’ – referring to complementary forces; the light in the dark and dark in the light. Massive shout out to Paul Lake, Steph Oakey and Hayley Green for designing and executing a transformative itinerary that enabled attendees to transcend above the strictures of adult life, to rediscover the joys of play, and also to Eva Ramirez, Tom Hall and Alex Chan for creating a vibrant and engaging conceptual and visual narrative that not only embodied MINI’s spirited attitude but highlighted the duality of the Japanese capital as well. Found this. Kansai has a few names on the list: Nintendo (6) Suntory (12) Daikin (19) Shimano (24) Stopping at 30. Yea, not much, but it's interesting how they're all somewhat focused on less explosive industries when compared to NTT, Toyota, Uniqlo. Do big businesses usually start in Tokyo, or do talented individuals often need to go to Tokyo to get real? If the latter is true, why did these 4 decide to stay in Kansai, and how did they manage to thrive despite being far from where stuff happens? Also, diversification is less evident among these brands. I wonder if there's a "Kansaian" way of doing business.
