Thinking a lot about the design and hosting of in-person events as we activate our venue in Long Beach. Each event has its own community, its own traditions, and its own elements that create excitement. One of the things I see that is amongst the most powerful is the art of being a good host. As we've gotten more virtual, I see people creating more spectacle but sometimes missing the heart of the event that comes from making sure everyone feels invited, comfortable, has met someone interesting, and has good options for a hallway track when they opt to drop out of the main event for a good conversation. What have you seen that is the indication of a conscious host that makes the event better?

It is with great pleasure that I share the first issue of 2024. Volume 15 (1) is a special issue edited by Bernadette Quinn and Maarit Kinnunen. 🤝 Sharing and belonging in festival and event space 📢 From the editorial ... "These papers show some of the different facets of sharing and belonging that events, festivals and their spaces may foster. They do this in the context of various challenging environments like times of pandemic, stigmatised residential areas, a rural area at risk of depopulation, high-risk countries and spaces where safety comes under threat as they become more open to the wider public. At the same time, and maybe even more importantly, they demonstrate the ways in which sharing and belonging might improve event participants' well-being. This can happen as events boost pride in the place where people live, reduce ambivalence and fear in a high-risk environment, enhance a sense of community through virtually presented festival content in pandemic times, recreate warm and sociable festival atmospheres through reminiscing about past (live) experiences in times of social isolation and ensure that safe spaces remain safe and free of prejudice and fear." https://lnkd.in/eVzC3P3n

I lead strategic communication initiatives, write compelling copy & believe that public service matters. Public relations executive. Mayor of Central, SC.
To Whom It May Concern: There is no such thing as a first annual event. There is no such thing as a second annual event. There IS such a thing as a third annual event. 👉 If an event has never happened before, it can’t be an annual event. If it’s the first of a planned series of annual events, call it “inaugural.” 👉 If an event has only happened once, it still can’t be an annual event. If it’s the second of a planned series of annual events, keep it simple: just call it the “second.” 👉 But the third? That’s what makes it an annual event. It’s happened twice already and will happen again. In other words, it’s the “third annual.” Sincerely, Me

I’m sharing a few reasons why I love the Live Event Industry. Hopefully you enjoy, I want you to succeed. 1. We serve others. Nothing like seeing thousands of people have a great experience. 2. No two days are ever the same. Our jobs change every single day. Always a new challenge. 3. The characters. We are a business full of interesting and creative people. You’ll meet fascinating people along the way, although you do have to expect that a few of them will not be your favorite people lol. 4. We get to give back. Some of the best events we do will not be for profit, they will be opportunities to give back to our communities. 5. We never stop growing. There are always new things to learn. This never ends and I would never want it to end. 6. It’s a grind. At times, but it’s all worth it. Pace yourself. 7. You’ll end up getting exposed to events and people that you would not have in your daily life. Whether you love them, or they are not your cup of tea, you’ll grow. 8. Winning over the jerks. I love loving people who are difficult. Sometimes I happens in one evening at an event, sometimes it takes decades, just keep treating them well. (Often very difficult) 9. Overcoming the obstacles. Stay in the fight and you’ll win in the end, just don’t quit. 10. Music. Sports. Conventions. Food. We have so many great things to love it never ends. Can we find a way to work together? How can I help you? What do you love about Live Events? #aegsev #empirepoloclub #aegpresents #goldenvoice #specialevents #liveevents #venues #festivals #growth
