The Wisconsin Retirement System is one of the most prepared public pensions for the next economic downturn. “In Wisconsin, stress testing demonstrates that current policies are sufficient to maintain high funding levels with minimal uncertainty about contributions. A stress test of the WRS shows that in a 25th percentile scenario (a 1 in 4 chance that economic and investment conditions will be this bad or worse), employer contributions would only need to rise from 12.9% of salary to 15.2% of salary over a 10-year period,” according to Pew Trusts’ November report on public sector retirement systems.
