📢 Important Food Safety Alert! 🚫📰 The use of newspapers for packing, serving, and storing food items. The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has issued a directive urging consumers and food vendors across the country to stop using newspapers for these purposes. 🔍 Why the concern? According to FSSAI CEO G. Kamala Vardhana Rao, the ink used in newspapers contains various bioactive materials with known negative health effects, which can contaminate food and lead to health issues when ingested. Printing inks may also contain chemicals like lead and heavy metals, posing serious health risks over time. 🚫 Strict Regulations in Place To address this concern, the FSSAI has notified the Food Safety and Standards (Packaging) Regulations, 2018, strictly prohibiting the use of newspapers or similar materials for storing and wrapping food. Newspapers should not be used to wrap, cover, or serve food, nor should they be used to absorb excess oil from fried food. 🌱 Promoting Food Safety and Well-being Emphasizing the paramount importance of food safety, Mr. Rao has urged all food vendors to adopt responsible packaging practices that prioritize the well-being of their customers. By discouraging the use of newspapers as food packaging materials and promoting safe alternatives, the FSSAI reaffirms its commitment to ensuring the safety of the nation’s food supply. 🤝 Community Action Needed Let's spread the word about this important directive and work together to ensure the safety of our food supply. As responsible consumers and vendors, it's vital that we adhere to these guidelines for the health and well-being of everyone. Celebrating World Food Safety Day 2024: Championing Transparency and Quality Today, on World Food Safety Day, we highlight the paramount importance of food safety and the urgent need for transparency in the food industry. This year’s theme, "Food Safety: Everyone's Business," underscores our collective responsibility to ensure that the food we consume is safe, nutritious, and genuinely represented. At Olitia, our commitment to food safety and integrity is unwavering. As experts in olive tea and premium olive products, we recognise that maintaining the highest standards of safety and quality is essential for the health of our consumers and the trust we build with them. Unfortunately, misleading marketing and deceptive practices are prevalent in the industry. Products often boast of ingredients that are present in negligible amounts or are entirely absent. These practices mislead consumers and undermine trust. We applaud the efforts of food safety advocates like Revant Himatsingka (Food Pharmer) , who tirelessly works to raise awareness about such deceptions and advocates for greater transparency in food labeling. At #Olitia, we take pride in doing things differently. We prioritise honesty and quality over profit. Here’s how: * Edible Products: We do not add artificial colours, essences, or flavours. Ingredients like olive leaves, olives, desi pink gulab, mint, tulsi, and lemongrass are organically homegrown using only cow dung without harmful pesticides or urea. We believe in being truthful to ourselves, our quality and the community we serve. On this #WorldFoodSafetyDay, let’s commit to prioritising integrity and health in every bite and every product. Join us in making food safety and honesty a priority. Together, we can ensure every meal is safe, every product is genuine and every consumer is well-informed. #WorldFoodSafetyDay #FoodSafety #Integrity #Olitia #NaturalIngredients #HealthAndWellness #FoodTransparency #SayNoToMisleadingMarketing

📢 Important Update from FSSAI: Ban on the Use of Newspapers in Food 📰🚫 I wanted to share a significant development from the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) that impacts the way we consume and serve food. FSSAI has recently implemented a ban on the use of newspapers in direct contact with food items, and I believe it's a crucial step towards ensuring food safety and hygiene. 🍔🗞️ Here's why this ban matters: Safety Concerns: Newspapers often contain harmful chemicals, inks, and dyes that can seep into the food, posing health risks to consumers. Hygiene: Using newspapers can compromise the hygiene standards of food, as they may not be handled and stored in clean, controlled environments. Compliance with Regulations: This ban aligns with international food safety standards and demonstrates India's commitment to ensuring safe and healthy food for all. Consumer Awareness: It's essential for all of us, as consumers, to be aware of these regulations to make informed choices about the food we consume. Alternatives: FSSAI encourages the use of food-grade packaging materials to maintain the quality and safety of food items. Let's spread the word about this ban to ensure that everyone in the food industry, from restaurants to street vendors, complies with these regulations. Together, we can make a positive impact on food safety and public health. 🍽️🤝 #FSSAI #FoodSafety #HygieneMatters #FoodIndustry #PublicHealth #FoodSafetyRegulations Feel free to customize and share this post on your LinkedIn to raise awareness about the importance of this regulation!

World Food Safety Day When food is not safe, people cannot consume the nutrients they need to remain healthy. More than 600 million people fall ill and over 420000 die every year after eating contaminated food. Food Safety is everyone's business, meaning that you play an important role in making sure food is safe to eat. This specific day aims to draw attention and inspire action to prevent, detect and manage foodborne risks, contributing to #food security, human #health, economic #prosperity, agriculture, market access, tourism and #sustainable #development. Some essential food safety tips to keep in mind: - Clean hands: wash thoroughly with soap and water, especially after touching raw meat or using the restroom. - Separate raw and cooked foods: use different cutting boards and utensils, to prevent cross-contamination. - Chill properly: refrigerate perishable foods promptly (within 2 hours) to prevent bacterial growth. - Avoid danger zone: bacteria multiply rapidly between 4°C (40°F) and 60°C (140°F), so keep hot foods above 60°C (140°F) and cold ones below 4°C (40°F). - Practice safe food storage: store raw meats separately from the other foods, and use airtight containers to prevent contamination. - Handle leftovers safely: refrigerate leftovers within 2 hours and consume them within couple of days; reheat thoroughly before consuming. - Be cautious with raw eggs: avoid consuming raw or undercooked eggs, due to the risk of salmonella. Remember, good safety practices help preventing foodborne illnesses and promote overall health. Stay #safe, stay #healthy! https://lnkd.in/dwtpG8Vp https://lnkd.in/dDQtsY_n https://lnkd.in/d4A_PxF4
