However, that number is expected to increase as demand for chips increases and as governments act to secure supply chains on a shifting global stage. With about 75% of emissions from semiconductor manufacturing coming from the manufacturing process itself, according to one Harvard study, there is ample opportunity for manufacturers to reduce emissions by taking measures to promote sustainable use of equipment, chemicals, water, and electricity in fabs. Our net-zero targets, which have just been approved by SBTi, are to reduce scope 1 and 2 emissions 80 percent by 2030 and 100 percent by 2050 (versus a 2019 baseline). For Scope 3, our targets are to reduce emissions 25 percent by 2030 and 90 percent by 2050 (2022 baseline). #Sustainability #ABB

Alfa commits to net-zero and we’re proud to have received validation for our science-based target, positioning us as corporate leaders of the low-carbon transition. The Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) ensures that our targets are aligned with restricting an increase in global temperatures to 1.5ºC. We’re going above and beyond the minimum requirements and intend to progress even further by committing to a long-term net-zero target. With this we will: - Reduce all Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions by 90% by 2050 compared with 2022; and - Neutralise any remaining unabated emissions through permanent carbon removal and storage, once achieving the long-term target.
