Back in 2014, FREITAG was looking for suitable workwear for the whole crew. As nothing was on the market that would meet the needs when it came to robust and resource-saving textiles, the decision was made to develop a clothing line from scratch. Thus, F-ABRIC was born - textiles made of bast, hemp and modal fibres, produced entirely in Europe. Compared to the production processes of common textiles, the journey from fibre to finished product is just a short trip for F‑ABRIC since all production stages occur within a 2500-kilometre radius of the FREITAG factory in Zurich. At the end of their lives, the textiles are fully compostable. Now, we decided to focus on closing the technical rather than biological cycle - in the bag sector, as this is where our core expertise lies - and where our circular ambitions have a bigger impact. That’s why we will no longer produce F-ABRIC garments and bid our remaining pieces farewell. One of the more debated applications for PFAS-free solutions has been technical #textiles such as personal protection for firefighters and other textiles where functionality is key. But today, there are several safer alternatives available on the market.

In this webinar I will talk about PFAS analysis and analytical methods that can capture polymeric PFAS such as fluoropolymers (e.g. PTFE) and side-chain fluorinated polymers. A possible future enforcement of a broad PFAS restriction will be highlighted through a case study on workwear garments and shoes.
