A week has passed since the Scale Venture Partners Go-To-Market Summit in San Francisco where I was fortunate to participate in the Pipeline Council breakout session led by Kristina McMillan and Lisa Horner. These two are must-follows on LinkedIn. 💪 4 key learnings from this amazing breakout session: 1. Ideal Customer Profile Development - As my colleagues Robert Koehler and David Brock always say, a vicious focus on your ICP is the fastest way to improve win rates. These are the accounts that have the highest probability of winning and retaining with the least amount of friction. 2. Customer First - Assign 5 customers to each executive at your company and build unstructured, human relationships with them. The more you can understand your customer's biggest issues, why and how you solve them better than anyone else, and use their voices of success to tell your story, the more you will expand your footprint with your existing customers and the more net new wins you will achieve in your top ICP accounts. (it all comes back to your ICP!) 3. Establish clear pipeline qualification & management definitions and expectations - When everyone knows and understands what a Marketing Qualified Lead (MQL) and a Sales Qualified Lead (SQL) are, you can build and move opportunities through the pipeline faster & more efficiently. Finger-pointing wastes valuable time and energy. 4. Outbound - This is a topic in and of itself but the keys to doing outbound successfully boil down to three things: 1. Less is more - point your sales team towards a narrow ICP, 2. Be human - do your homework, leverage customer stories, and speak in the buyer's language, and 3. Leverage technology to help increase your reachability rate and to establish & track your progress against key performance metrics that move the needle for the business (i.e. # of first meetings, pipeline created, etc) The Pipeline Council was a powerful reminder of the importance of Sales & Marketing working together to deliver high-impact marketing activities, boost sales effectiveness, and grow revenue. #gtm #salesstrategy #saassales #gotomarket #saleseffectiveness
