Rewilded bison increased the carbon capture by 10x in this project in Romania.
Further evidence that rewilding can enable carbon capture on an astonishing scale. 🌍 New research released today from Yale University reveals that a group of 170 rewilded European Bison in Romania's Tarcu mountains are playing a crucial role in combating climate change. 🌿 Using a new computer model developed at Yale School of the Environment in collaboration with the Global Rewilding Alliance, it has been calculated that these Bison capture approximately an additional 54,000 tonnes of carbon per year through their grazing in an area of 48 km2. This is nearly 10 times more carbon capture than without the Bison. 🌱The findings are further evidence of the importance of rewilding in combatting climate change. Earlier this year, Nattergal Ltd, Kneppestate and Arup published a study that highlighted the higher than anticipated carbon capture potential of rewilded scrubland. If you haven't already done so, you can read the full report here: https://lnkd.in/eCxTV2zC It's wonderful to receive this good news. The Nattergal team will be taking both studies into account when calculating the carbon sequestration rates our wildlands. Exciting things to come!

Empowering startups with expertise in Strategic Project Management, Business Development, Fundraising, Team Building, Stakeholder Engagement, and Sustainability -- Let's talk!
NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory scientists have highlighted something critical using satellite imagery: from 1985 to 2022, Greenland lost roughly 1 trillion metric tons of ice. That's an area the size of Delaware disappearing, and it's a loss we hadn't fully accounted for using traditional methods. Beyond the ecological and environmental ramifications, there's a human dimension to this crisis. The potential rise in sea levels could radically alter the lives of millions living in coastal areas. As someone deeply embedded in the world of sustainable business and green tech innovation, I see this as a clarion call for urgent action. We need to intensify our efforts in fighting climate change, from embracing renewable energy to innovating in sustainable technologies and altering our lifestyles for the better.
