💡Have you ever heard of knowledge co-production? In this video, researcher Dragon Bojović from the Barcelona Supercomputing Center, addresses this important concept. 💬 It refers to the essential collaboration between scientists and various societal groups — like #citizens, businesses and policy-makers — to transform useful scientific data into usable information and knowledge. 🔎 🔷 Within #nextGEMS, there is a specific theme being addressed by the Storms & Science team, which sheds light on knowledge co-production, bridging science and #society together. 📽️ https://buff.ly/3KQ1SIy #ClimateScience #StormsResolvingModelling #H2020 #ScienceVideo #EarthSystemModelling

A good demonstration or tour can be not only magical, but transformative. I'd guess that over 50% of the tours we give result in follow on funding engagement. As a result, I've been asked by many how we prepare to give good tours. Here's a how too for researchers seeking to showcase their research: https://lnkd.in/gTNUxm97

Carl Sagan once said, "We live in a society exquisitely dependent on science and technology, in which hardly anyone knows anything about science and technology." As intellectuals, it's essential to delve into scientific thinking and discoveries to enrich our minds. But how do we bridge the gap between our daily use of advanced technology and the understanding of the science behind it? Explore how modern life, often experienced as "magic," can be better understood and appreciated through scientific literacy. Join us in unraveling the wonders of our tech-driven world. Lecturer in Creative Computing ✦ PhD in Algorithmic Worlding ✦ Immersive Storytelling ✦ XR ✦ Experimental Gameworlds ✦ Interactive Design ✦ Ai Entanglements
Presenting a paper titled "Affective Attunement within Virtual Ecologies: Immersive Worlding as Posthuman Storytelling Practice" at the Politics of the Machines 2024 conference in Aachen today - reflecting on game engines as software infrastructures, worlding with reality media, speculative storytelling and alternative epistemologies 🫧 The paper sets out to explore emergent practices of ‘worlding’ with volumetric and reality media as posthuman storytelling projects that constitute modes of resistance to contemporary technological paradigms. Drawing on feminist technoscience and decolonial thought, this research calls into question the ideological relationship between narrative archetypes, volumetric assets and environmental design within the software infrastructures of game engine technologies. How do you do 10-year science experiments with 5-year funding? Not easily, say Canada's premier science facilities, and the way we do this means ceding research and researchers to other countries. Colleague Murad Hemmadi and I interviewed the heads of the Triumf particle accelerator in Vancouver, Snolab in Sudbury and Canadian Light Source in Saskatoon, so they could explain why they believe we need to overhaul the way we fund these big sites, which are shared by numerous top-flight universities but have to cobble together their own budgets. #Canada #Science #FederalBudget #Snolab #Triumf #CanadianLightSource

So pleased Meet Aandi is a part of this research. "Diversifying audio description in the Australian digital landscape (led by Professor Kathleen Ellis): Audio description (AD) is a track of narration describing important visual elements of visual media to make it accessible to people who are blind or vision impaired. It is also increasingly being used by the mainstream audience. This project aims to examine the consumption and production of Audio Description throughout Australian cultural life. It expects to generate new knowledge about the ways digital media including emerging generative artificial intelligence might be leveraged to increase access to audio description. Expected outcomes include a curriculum, guidelines and materials designed to empower industries, communities and governments to work together to meet Australia’s obligation to provide access to cultural activities using AD". #WorldMoreAccessible https://bit.ly/46tSnap

Meet WARIO, a novel approach to characterize ensembles of (highly-)flexible proteins. WARIO incorporates the probabilistic nature of #IDPs by capturing the ensemble information within a weighted family of contact maps. This method leverages a refined contact definition based on inter-residue geometry and sequence context. Subsequently, clustering these contact-based descriptors unveils representative structural features of the entire ensemble. Notably, WARIO effectively identifies even transiently populated structures. We demonstrate WARIO's superiority over existing methods in capturing crucial structural features of highly flexible proteins through several use-cases. Very grateful to Pau Bernado, Pierre Neuvial and Juan Cortés for this amazing work! https://lnkd.in/eujBvruj
