Thanks to everyone who came out to AFCEA Quantico-Potomac #USMCITDay. For those curious about #P3E, here is the Cliffs Notes version: Words matter. The case for P3E (Primary, Primary, Primary, Emergency). The concept of a PACE Plan (Primary, Alternate, Contingency, Emergency) now includes the acceptance of lesser capability as you move from Primary through Emergency. While “E” does describe the thinnest of lines, and the absolute basics necessary to convey a commander’s intent, the P, A, and C were never specified to be a gradual degradation of capability. We added this attribute to the concept over time. The fact is, we need the P, A, and C to be equal in capability thus providing three Primary options for achieving a given task or mission. P3E describes the architecture we need to allow maximum flexibility in mission engineering and execution. P3E describes the mentality we need to create requirements and acquisition strategy that is adaptable and delivers composable components, configurable for any task or mission in multiple ways. P3E describes how products and solutions could prioritize interoperability, and compatibility rather than closed ecosystems or platforms. We change our words to change our thinking, and drive outcomes. P3E sets the conditions for improved requirements, flexibility in program execution, exponential increase in options for task and mission owners, more opportunities for innovation, and all of this leads to advantage in competition and beyond. #P3E
