Agnico Eagle Mines Limited LaRonde Mine — Environmental Excellence is one of this year's recipients of the Towards Sustainable Mining (TSM) Awards celebrating excellence and leadership in sustainable development for their transition to filtered tailings management. Since 1988, the LaRonde Complex had been utilizing slurry tailings deposition, reaching maximum storage capacity over the years. Seeking additional storage space became imperative, and after a comprehensive study and stakeholder consultation, a decision to transition to filtered tailings was made. LaRonde is the first Canadian mine to complete the transition of stacking tailings on top of slurry beaches inside of existing tailings storage facilities. Through various key innovations, this approach will help to reduce the environmental footprint, minimize risk, support reclamation, and improve cost management. Captured here is a pivotal moment in my past as a mining engineer—a successful endeavor involving the extraction of mountainous terrain for the construction of a factory within a quarry. The excavated material is stockpiled within the same depleted space and processed at the newly built plant for the next three years. Not [yet] directly involved with CAS (Collision Avoidance System); but it's part of the #MineProtect division of Hexagon Mining; whose sibling products I do work on. I help implement and improve software which helps achieve #SafeMines via realizing #SmartMines; for which the satisfaction thereof is self-evident. In doing so: I do my part to help the folks in this video and throughout many mines throughout the world safely complete their shifts so they can come home to their lives, families, and friends thereafter. I thus get the significance of my work in these products! And I always pause to hear the words of the people I serve who benefit therefrom. What an incredible week in Arequipa! This week at #Perumin36, our Director, Dr. Mario G Picón gave a keynote on "mining on the future" and #collaboration models for #energytransition and #decarbonization. As we usher in the New Year, I find myself reflecting on the journey we've shared at the Cobre Panama mine, a place that has been our second home and workplace for the past five years. Today, I want to reach out to all of you – my current and former colleagues – who are navigating through the challenges and uncertainties that the mine is facing. Your dedication and hard work have not gone unnoticed. Each one of you has been an integral part of building, commissioning, and operating a world-class mining operation. CODELCO – Corporación Nacional del Cobre de Chile turned to Hexagon for a collision avoidance system (CAS) for its Radomiro Tomic mine in northern Chile. In a video shared by the company, it was shown that HxGN MineProtect CAS has helped reduce potential risk conditions by 90% and decrease speeding events by 54%. 🚛 "We are a large organization, with more than 100 mining trucks, 40 ancillary vehicles and 14 loading units,” said Pedro Díaz, mine superintendent at Radomiro Tomic. “That is why the technical implementation is complex and we have a very wide universe of people.
