Nimmi is an absolute star in the mining world. I am grateful for her willingness to help others succeed and passion for sharing her knowledge to inspire the next generation of people entering into the natural resources industry. Thanks for sharing!
🏭 Once there, we were welcomed by none other than Quarry Manager Alfred Sundumba – a true maestro of mining operations. Alfred guided us through the intricate processes of the mine, revealing the mesmerizing dance between machines and rocks. The sheer might of loaders and excavators as they removed the earth's embrace to expose the precious rocks was a sight to behold.
🪨 The heart of their drilling operation was equally captivating. With a 76mm rod delving up to 14m deep, the mine seemed like a portal to the Earth's hidden secrets. And oh, the challenges they face! Being part of a close-knit community, the mine must carefully choreograph their blasting to avoid unsettling their neighbors.
🛑 Safety – a golden mantra in the mining realm. We delved into an induction session led by the remarkable Freeman Kofi, the HSE manager. He shared a life-altering acronym: SAFETY.
💡 S - Search for Hazards
💡 A - Analyse the cause
💡 F - Find the cause
💡 E - Eliminate the cause
💡 T - Tell others
💡 Y - You are free
💬 Freeman's wisdom was illustrated through a poignant tale. A mechanic's unspoken warning led to tragic consequences. In the corporate world, as in life, being each other's keeper is paramount. 💪
🗣️ "Who's responsible for your safety?" Freeman's question echoed in the at the site. And Judith's response struck a chord – "We are responsible for our own safety."
📦✉️ The company's safety culture stood out, embracing open dialogue. A suggestion box, a treasure trove of ideas, anonymously shared hazards, and solutions. Managers convene regularly, echoing their commitment to a secure work environment.
🌐 Let's open this dialogue, LinkedIn fam! Share your thoughts – how do YOU foster safety and teamwork in YOUR workplace? October is National Safe Work Month!
Everyone has the right to a healthy and safe environment, and this year’s theme, ‘For Everyone’s Safety, Work Safely’, is a great reminder that we all have a responsibility to create a safe and inclusive workplace.
At NRW, safety is and always has been our number one priority, and we're proud to foster a culture that prioritises the well-being of our team. Through initiatives like, Critical Risk Management, safety leadership and psychosocial training, we continuously strive to enhance safety measures across all of our business units – NRW Civil & Mining, Golding, Primero Group, Action Drill & Blast, RCR Mining Technologies, DIAB Engineering Pty Ltd, AES Equipment Solutions and OFI / Powering Innovation.
Safety isn’t just something we’ve practised this month, but an integral part of who we are as a company. As National Safe Work Month comes to a close, we encourage you to look after your team members and yourself every single day.

My thoughts on #BHPXplor
Applications close on October 11th this week!
Some quick thoughts about those of you still thinking about applying for the next round of funding for the BHP Xplor programme.
MAKE SURE YOU DO IT!!
As many of you know, Impact Minerals Limited was fortunate enough to have been selected as one of the inaugural seven companies to participate in the unique #BHPXplor exploration accelerator programme.
I have to say it was one of the most rewarding things I have undertaken in my career. It was a privilege to have been involved with an exceptional group of people, both from BHP, who put together the incredible programme (in particular The Fabulous Five, Sonia Scarselli, Charlee Johnson, Libby Sharman, Niall McCormack and Marley Palin); as well as the other members of what we came to name ourselves, the Magnificent Seven (a name a few of us came up with in the bar late one night (very late)!
The name was appropriate because the programme brought together 7 different groups of people who, despite our disparate backgrounds, all had a shared passion for exploration and discovery. That passion was matched by the passion of the Xplor team, who are really set on trying to change the way major and junior companies interact, and I have to say we did all bond during the programme and that was worth more than the funding in many ways.
So be aware that the selection process is very well thought out – they are looking for people who have the same passion, but who are also very open to being coachable and want to throw themselves into the Xplor programme.
We certainly threw ourselves into it at Impact, and it has strengthened both my own personal development with all the one-on-one coaching received, as well as the Impact team, as we have implemented many of the learnings into our culture. It has also immensely improved our stakeholder engagement. We spent every dollar they gave us on our Broken Hill project, and we will have a lot of news to come from that as we put together all the data we collected.
I like to call the Xplor program a mini-MBA in how to run a junior exploration company that has the strategies, tools, and systems to be able to speak the same language as and work alongside a major mining company. If you want a major company as a partner, you need to make it easy for them to do business with you, and so having the right processes and systems in place that reduce their risk in dealing with you upfront is one of the keys to attracting them to your company and your project.
For those of you worried about the agreement, the IP, the possible “hooks” in the deal, being treated like children, or being susceptible to “drinking the BHP Kool-Aid”, (some of the many barbs thrown in our direction!), you have no idea what you are closing your mind to.

This is the video of my presentation about our experience with Xplor at the showcase held at the end of the programme. I hope it tells the story.
Today marks the International Day for Mine Awareness and Assistance in Mine Action.
As we honor this day, let's take a moment to celebrate the milestones of progress achieved in safety standards and protocols, demonstrating an unwavering commitment to the health and safety of workers, their families, local communities, and wider society within the mining industry.
On 8 December 2005, the UN General Assembly declared that 4 April of each year shall be observed as the International Day for Mine Awareness and Assistance in Mine Action.
Let's also acknowledge the tireless efforts of organizations like the United Nations Mine Action Service (UNMAS), whose dedication over the past two decades has saved countless lives and facilitated the delivery of humanitarian aid in some of the world's most challenging environments.
As we look ahead, let's be proactive and remind every employee at our mines to be aware about their health and safety each moment he/she is at work. Together, we can create a safety work place where every individual, regardless of ability, can thrive.
At TeamTech EHS, we have extensive expertise in assisting numerous clients within the mining industry with the implementation, enhancement, and long-term sustainability of their health and safety systems. Please don't hesitate to reach out for any consulting needs you may have.

At SSE Co, we believe that a great reporting culture is crucial to maintaining a safe and productive workplace.
Hence we welcome the benchmark report from the Commissioner for Resource Safety and Health: "State of Safety Reporting Culture in Queensland’s Mining Industry" Report.
Representing the first time an industry-wide survey of the safety reporting culture of the mining industry has been conducted, the report considered Exploration, Underground and Surface operations across Coal, Metalliferous and Quarrying sectors.
While many learnings, opportunities and takeaways are in the report, some highlights we noted were;
- Frontline leaders and supervisors typically encouraged mine workers to take appropriate action if they felt unsafe and to report near misses, high potential incidents and hazards.
- Senior leaders typically encouraged workers to report safety concerns and that when incidents are reported they investigate.
- The opportunity to make reporting systems clearer and easier to use, better recognition of positive safety behaviours, and better involvement of frontline workers in safety initiatives.
- Feedback on the opportunity for senior leaders to provide more timely feedback to workers about safety concerns and increasing interaction and visibility with frontline workers to inspire a more positive safety culture.

By relating training and operations #to the #African concept of vuka uzenzele – translating to ‘wake up and do it for yourself’ – this age-old wisdom acts as an essential tool for #mining companies and their #engineering partners to reach #employees and ingrain a #culture that prioritises #healthandsafety.

⚒️ Excited to share my recent experience educating my classmates on the critical use of self-contained rescue packs as part of our Protective Personal Equipment (PPE) in mining! 🚧
In preparation for the groups which are going to coal mine visits. It was important that we demonstrate how to use a rescue pack.⚒️🕺🏿💃🏿
As a passionate steward leader for safety in mining, it was an honor to lead a session on the importance of utilizing rescue packs effectively. These packs aren't just gear; they're lifelines🛟 in potentially hazardous situations underground (when we encounter harmful gases and fires). Teaching my colleagues how to properly use them not only enhances our safety but also underscores the value of preparation and vigilance in our industry, Phepha Mina, Phepha zonked. 💫
Mining is more than just a profession to me; it's a calling. Ensuring that every miner understands the significance of their equipment and procedures is paramount to safeguarding our community. By fostering a culture of education and empowerment, we're not just protecting ourselves but also contributing to the sustainability and prosperity of our industry.
Here's to continuous learning, shared knowledge, and a commitment to safety in mining! 💪🏿🫶🏿
Let me see if you were awake during the presentation? which step did I leave out that is vital before proceedings to the refugee bay?🤓
