"California's decision to take Big Oil companies to court is a watershed moment in the rapidly expanding legal fight to hold major polluters accountable for decades of climate lies." The average citizen can reduce, reuse, and recycle all we want, but the Climate Majors report in 2017 found that 100 companies contribute more than 71% of global GHG emissions. We can make all the net-zero pledges we want, but another report in 2019 found the top 20 energy companies have produced more than 35% of global C02/methane emissions since 1968. We can't win the war on climate change if corporations aren't held responsible for their role in environmental destruction -- the penalties need to be greater than the profits!

Attempts to address climate change and the effectiveness of using carbon credits have led to a focus on improving both regulated and voluntary carbon markets. The Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), the world’s leading verifier of corporate climate targets, recently sparked a heated debate following its announcement that it will consider recognizing environmental attribute certificates, including #CarbonOffsets, for abatement purposes when reducing value chain #emissions. This comes at a critical time as we approach (and surpass) multiple climate benchmarks and actively pursue solutions for a liveable future. Today, Devold has committed to set climate reduction targets in line with the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). This follows a Board decision that mandates the company to halve greenhouse gas emissions from its own operations by 2030 and achieve net-zero by 2050.
