Especially in the context of the recently published European Research Council (ERC) Starting Grant results, I would like to share with you an important paper with positive examples about how 'excellence' can be backed and supported by improved institutional background: https://lnkd.in/ducEVUXe To be honest, at the European level, and for 'widening' participation, I still strongly feel devastated by the fact that widely recognized scientific excellence and research (e.g. StG) is limited to and concentrated in few countries. I also believe that it is not at the level of the personal excellence that researchers applying for StG in various countries differ from each-other, but in terms of institutional background, infrastructure, support mechanisms, etc. So the latter should be improved in order to achieve real widening.

🌐 Collaborative Advancements in European Life Sciences Research Infrastructures! We are thrilled to share that European Life Sciences Research Infrastructures (LSRI) recently convened in Brussels on October 17th and 18th. The gathering aimed to exchange experiences, ambitions, expertise, and requirements to further enhance their impact on scientific progress in Europe. These infrastructures play a pivotal role in providing access to world-class facilities, samples, instruments, services, and invaluable data. One of the distinguished participants, MIRRI - Microbial Resource Research Infrastructure represented by Ana Portugal Melo, is dedicated to ensuring equitable access for research communities and fostering excellence in life science research across Europe. This week's gathering delves into addressing shared challenges and advancing collectively. Celebrating life science is what we do at Oxford Global! And we are delighted to announce the newest celebration: the Young Scientist Awards (YSA) for Best Poster Presentation at the upcoming NextGen Omics 2023 event. These awards are intended to honour outstanding individual performance for scientific work by PhD students, post doctorates, and early-career scientists. Taking place on the 9th and 10th of November at the ExCel London, NextGen Omics 2023 will bring together leading experts in the field of omics research. Spheroids are three-dimensional (3D) cellular models that show widespread application across academic and industrial research groups. PhD student and Fonds Wetenschappelijk Onderzoek - Vlaanderen (FWO) fellow Eva Blondeel, affiliated with Universiteit Gent, is collaborating in the MISpheroID consortium as part of her doctoral project, which aims to improve the interpretation and reproducibility of spheroid experiments.
