Yep, this all started with the ascendancy of Donald Trump, bankrupt hotelier, Gotham City playboy and reality TV huckster who's signature line "You're fired!" made him popular beyond the island of Manhattan. His "fake news" mantra for anything the media reported that made him look bad along with branding the press as "the enemy of the people" attracted millions who absorb his every word as gospel. Add to that, his loyal GOP sycophants and many retired FBI groupies who not only praised Trump, but also criticized the FBI while appearing on Fox News, writing commentaries for fringe right wing platforms--many even considering Jan 6 defendants as victims of a weaponized FBI--and it's no wonder why 25% of US adults (and 44% of Trump voters) believe the FBI instigated Jan. 6. Even more unbelievable is that while Trump is solely responsible for his legal and political problems--and these poll results--those same people who worshiped at his altar now view him as the only individual who can lead America back from the brink. If making America great again delivered two impeachments (a Guinness world record), 91 pending felony charges and who knows what else from his first four years, what kind of greatness can we expect from him with another four years? If Trump actually is the GOP nominee, then the voters will decide--the same voters who believe the FBI juiced the crowd on Jan. 6.

This one's for the brands, the shareholders, and the voters... 📰 Misinformation is *the* challenge of a generation of comms professionals. Exaggerated headlines, biased coverage, or downright fake news. It's as harmful as it is prevalent, and with news of a snap election in the UK, it's going to be everywhere. Here are some reminders on exercising critical thinking, and determining angles of media - and non-media - outputs right now. https://lnkd.in/enyWgZcP

MAKE AMERICA PAY AGAIN Caesar Trump, like all rich people, feel they are royalty and want to spread their name far and wide, like the Borgias. Trump's actual behavior is to ask the poor (or much poorer than he is) to donate to him, rather than the rich (like him) giving to the less fortunate. Now the Bible will help him raise even more money but only his family will know if it's spent primarily on printing Bibles or on defeating Biden, or just a center for money-changing.... "MAKE AMERICA PAY AGAIN"--pay Trump's bills again--but he doesn't trust anyone outside the family to know what he's actually doing with the many millions from his White cult followers. Maybe Lara can get Ivanka and Jared, who are Jewish, to handle the checks from antisemites. Trump wants their votes no matter what, even the violent crazies'. Get the details of Lara's Fund from this article in the NY Times: https://lnkd.in/gZERjt8a. If everything is a commodity in his real religion--his book will have to be re-titled formally as "The Art of the Steal"--what other religious stuff could Trump earn money from AND get that money from the un-rich AND not have to pay $millions in legal fees himself? There's only one answer: re-brand Jesus as a rough, tough White guy and sell that reverse image. Nietzsche thought that Jesus was the first and last Christian; Trump is clearly the least. Great timing for marketing a book everyone already has--perfect for Memorial Day sales. And Independence Day: why not sell copies of Jefferson's version of the Bible ("Jefferson's Bible"), where all supernatural factors are dropped? That would build a larger audience. I doubt that Trump knows that Protestants and Catholics focus on different parts of the Bible. I'm certain Trump doesn't know why these Christian faiths have radical differences. Finally, by Labor Day Trump must pump the average working man and woman to join the Trump Cult. The entire time Trump has been the center of public attention--nearly a decade--has been to gain new types of income, not pay many of his bills, and help keep the flow of money going even faster, from lower-income families to the 2% which already owns 80% of all US wealth. That's why Trump picked the current Easter season: as in "1984," use a word like "Easter" but give it an opposite meaning than it's always had. According to Trumpism Easter is a great brand for turning the spiritual into hard cash. The latter is the true goal of Trumpers--they need it to gain power too. Those who worship Trump as a more macho update or replacement for Jesus don't ask any of these questions, and with Lara in charge, they will never know they're attacking Christianity, mocking Jesus, making the rich richer, and turning a (frequently) spiritual religion into a very unspiritual income center. #BibleSale #BibleFriday #RichGetRicher #MoneyChangers

Trump trial will be aired on live TV Dear MoveOn member, In a critical update, we now know that Donald Trump's criminal trial in Georgia will be aired live on national TV.1 Trump faces 13 felony charges in Georgia related to his criminal conspiracy to unlawfully overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election, including charges under Georgia's RICO statute, most often used to prosecute mob activity and other organized crime.2 This will be the trial of the century. Millions of voters will be tuning in. And it gives us a golden opportunity to get the truth out about Trump's crimes and educate voters about the GOP's complicity in his attempt to destroy our democracy. While District Attorney Fani Willis will make the case against Trump and his criminal co-conspirators, we can help counter the rampant MAGA disinformation about Trump's crimes and also make the case against the Republican leaders in Congress and on the campaign trail who have supported his criminal behavior and shielded him from accountability. But we need your help. If we can raise enough money, MoveOn will air hard-hitting TV ads during the Trump trial, right as millions of voters in swing states are tuning in. Will you start a $5 monthly donation to help us produce and air ads during the Trump trial, and to power our long-term work to stop Trump and the GOP from winning in 2024? Yes, I'll chip in monthly. No, I'm sorry, I can't make a monthly donation. Trump's trial in Georgia is unique because state courts typically allow livestreaming of their proceedings, unlike the federal courts where Trump faces dozens of other criminal charges. That's why experts predict this will be the most-watched trial in U.S. history. One expert on the First Amendment noted, "There will literally be far more eyes on this trial" than on any before.3 With millions of key voters sure to be glued to their screens during the trial, it is critical that we combat MAGA's baseless lies that the criminal prosecutions are witch hunts and educate the electorate about Trump's crimes. It's also critical we show voters the role that other leading Republicans have played in enabling Trump's crimes and corruption.
