This new Research to Practice report presents the complete findings of “Conversations about Life, Health, and Safety”, a research project funded by icare NSW. The project involved creating a digital role-playing game (RPG) to improve communication in the Australian construction industry. The RPG was played by over 150 apprentices in a before-after trial and was tested by a focus group comprised of industry supervisors and managers. Analysis of survey data showed that playing the RPG significantly increased the extent to which apprentices' comfort in communicating with their supervisor is translated into self-reported safety communication behaviour. The RPG also significantly strengthened the association between feeling comfortable talking with supervisors about health and safety-related issues and the apprentices’ mental health. This report summarises the background of the project, the participative design process and the results of the quantitative and qualitative evaluations of the RPG. This research was undertaken in partnership with the Master Builders Association of New South Wales, The Australian National University, and the Centre for Work Health and Safety. Meet TAHFM Region 8 Director Amanda Stephens: Where do you work? Methodist Hospital as Director of Facilities Management What TAHFM roles do you currently hold? Region 8 Director (San Antonio, San Angelo, Uvalde), Chair of the Young Professionals Committee, Co-Chair of the Education Committee How long have you been a TAHFM member? Since 2020 Why do you love TAHFM? I love TAHFM’s mission of education through association. TAHFM seeks to provide education to its members at little to no cost, just for the sake of getting information out there so that we can all be more compliant. Why has it been important for you to serve as a Board member? The community the comes with being a board member is awesome and I have been able to improve not only my own knowledge base, but that of my team and my community. I feel like being a member of the board has given me the opportunity to network with people all across the country. What is your advice to new members? My advice to new members is to spend some time exploring the web page, find a social or educational event in your region, connect with someone on the board or another member and honestly just dive in. We welcome new people with open arms and are always happy to chat and learn what the member really hopes to gain. #tahfm #ashe #hfm #MeetTheBoard #healthcarefacilitiesmanagement #healthcarefacility

Program Directors, join NAAB for a virtual session on "The Value of Architectural Accreditation and Emerging Trends in Credentialing" on Tuesday, Jan 16 from 5pm to 7pm ET. Register here: https://lnkd.in/eZuT7G4j As the topic of alternative paths to licensure trends across industries, it is becoming increasingly timely in our own field with NCARB and the Minnesota licensing board planning to come together as soon as January to explore removing higher education requirements for licensure. NAAB values both the role of #Credentialing in providing #QualityAssurance for #PublicSafety and the importance of #DiversityandInclusion in the architecture community. We see the topic of alternative paths to licensure as nuanced and multi-faceted and recognize the importance of creating a forum in which the architectural education community can come together to share perspectives and give these issues the necessary time and attention.
