🤫 Wildlife communicators' secrets revealed! 🤫 Can you imagine working as a conservation communicator, inspiring people to care about wildlife? We asked professional conservation communicators what their favourite part of the job is... “Making impact through storytelling - I love highlighting important conservation work that wouldn't otherwise be receiving the recognition it deserves... We all know that to care about something, people have to know about it first!” - Kate Stephenson, Kate on Conservation. “...reporting, coupled with the awareness campaigns and the indigenous protests, led to this huge outcome where something like 29m tonnes of carbon emissions were avoided…we’re trying to provide information to whoever can use it in a productive way so they can make informed decisions.” - Rhett Butler, Founder and CEO, Mongabay. “It's all about the storytelling. Hearing the news first from the organisations I work with and then working out the best way to deliver that information to the relevant audience in a way that will capture their imagination. I feel it's a very privileged position to be in.” - Lloyd Goften, Communications Coach and Head of Marketing, Conservation Careers. “It's the thrill of sharing enthusiasm and curiosity. We live on a gorgeous planet, let's explore it, care for it, and learn everything about it!” - Fernando Mateos González, Founder | https://ow.ly/Sn5450RCQzN. “I love the creativity and freedom communications brings. Finding ways to engage and inform about conservation issues using a variety of methods from writing stories and creating videos and podcasts. It's fun.” - Nick Askew, Director, Conservation Careers. “I love uncovering stories and finding the best way to tell them - especially stories that would otherwise remain untold. Conservation communications is also where science meets art, and where research meets creativity - the best of both worlds :) - Kristi Foster, Head of Programmes, Conservation Careers. “...my proudest media moment was securing a little article about the discovery of a new bird species... I wrote the press release with [the chap] who made the discovery. We put it out to the world’s media and it got massive pick up - we’re talking front page of the New York Times” - Richard Thomas | Global Communications Co-ordinator, TRAFFIC. Would you like to join these conservation communicators, in a role where creativity meets purpose and impact? 🙌 Our Communications for Conservation Projects course can help, and we’re offering a special 33% discount until 31st May! 💚 Join us! 👉 https://ow.ly/nWiS50RCQzP #ConservationCareers #ConservationJobs #Comms4Conservation 📷 Kate on Conservation

What motivates ranchers to adopt conservation practices? Perhaps unsurprisingly, in a new study led by Chloe Wardropper and several co-authors, we found found that ranchers’ values, namely their sense of responsibility towards the larger region, and their perceptions of the effectiveness of their conservation actions contributed to adoption of conservation actions. We also found that ranchers with less concern about threats to their property rights were more likely to take conservation actions. Landcare NSW and BCT Private Land Conservation Matters (PLCM) Project Update https://bit.ly/3GQWeUp In New South Wales, private land conservation is a vital strategy for enhancing biodiversity, filling critical gaps not covered by public reserves. It enhances habitat connectivity, safeguards diverse ecosystems, and involves local landowners directly in conservation efforts. This approach not only supports wildlife and habitat protection but also promotes sustainable land management and climate change mitigation through innovative practices. By integrating private lands into conservation strategies, NSW leverages a broader, more inclusive approach to preserving its unique biodiversity, engaging communities, and fostering a culture of environmental stewardship. The Private Land Conservation Matters (PLCM) Project is an initiative by Landcare NSWand Biodiversity Conservation Trust (BCT) aimed at advancing conservation efforts on private lands. In this update, we provide highlights on the project’s progress, communication plan, workplan reviews by Landcare groups, insights from a presentation by the Natural Resources Commission (NRC), and the involvement of BCT’s Regional Managers in shaping its future direction.
