Today, as our offices are closed, we take a moment to reflect on the significance of Juneteenth for our New Engen community. On this Juneteenth, we honor the resilience and rich history of the Black community. This day is not only a powerful celebration of history and culture but also a crucial reminder of the injustices the Black community has faced and continues to face. At New Engen, we understand that meaningful progress requires ongoing education and action. Last week, during our company-wide all-hands meeting, we highlighted Juneteenth's history and encouraged employees to commemorate the day by seeking Juneteenth events and volunteer opportunities in our local and virtual communities. We are constantly working to create a safe and welcoming environment where everyone can thrive by embracing diversity, creating equity, and fostering empathy. We have curated a list of events and educational resources below where we can all celebrate, learn, donate, and volunteer. 💡 Learn more about the history of Juneteenth: https://lnkd.in/g4EX_uUD 📚 Looking for more resources? Will you be at this year's Grantmakers for Effective Organizations (GEO) Conference? Join Frontline Founder, Marcus Littles, in conversation with Phillip Agnew and Angie Junck on "Reframing Evidence: Base-building as a Road to Black Liberation" at the GEO conference in Los Angeles, CA, Tues. May 21, 3:15-4:30PM. There’s often a conversation around the lack of metrics and evidence that base building has led to Black liberation and supports Black people to reclaim their power. Organizing is an effective tool and we can be thinking about how to leverage metrics and evidence to serve the community instead of being extractive. In this space, we’ll be interrogating this assumption and discussing why base building should be a philanthropic priority, given the evidence of its success.

A majority of Black-led and Black-benefiting nonprofits operate on less than $500,000 a year, a report released by the Young, Black & Giving Back Institute finds. Ebonie Johnson Cooper, founder and Executive Director of the Young, Black and Giving Back Institute. “Our survey uniquely highlights the needs, experiences, and attitudes of Black-led and -benefiting nonprofits and the critical role they play in Black communities across the country. Leon Rock, Co-Founder and CEO of the African American Diabetes Association, Inc. agrees and also believes that Black folks need to also fuel the work of Black-led organizations by centering their investment in organizations such as the AADA. Rock went on to say, "Black folks must also address the funding gap for Black-led organizations addressing health disparities." It can be as easy as Black folks creating Birthday fundraisers on social media, like Facebook. It can be that simple, and it can make a world of difference for Black people impacted by diabetes...

Today, we released the Bloomberg Philanthropies' 2024 annual report. This gives you insights into the work we’re leading around the world, including the impact we’re making through programs like the Greenwood Initiative. A few highlights: 1. Our historic investment at our nation’s four historically Black medical students has led to nearly 1,000 students receiving up to $100,000 to reduce their debt and significantly expanded opportunities for Black doctors to practice in underserved communities. 2. We celebrated the 2nd cohort of Vivien Thomas Scholars at The Johns Hopkins University, a program we endowed to support a new, more diverse generation of scholars and researchers in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) fields. 3. We have continued to grow and strengthen the Black Wealth Data Center to provide public and private sector leaders with comprehensive data to advance racial wealth equity. Thank you to everyone who has partnered with us this year. Check out the report for more on how we’re working to accelerate the pace of wealth accumulation for Black individuals and families. https://lnkd.in/exxeEUW8
