One week ago I was driving home from the Revenue Operations Alliance Summit and let me tell you how humbling it was connecting with others who struggled with the same things professionally. The last 2 companies I served were small groups striving for growth. A lot of orhanizations that have established and understand the need for RevOps professionals are typically middle and larger sized companies, but they are all struggling to keep up with their insanely fantastic and overwhelming growth. There needs to be a blend, the best of both worlds where you are building a RevOps team WHILE scaling, not as an afterthought. How do you make a business case for something "new" when the rest of your business is still operating like it would have 20 years ago? 🤔 It's time to face the music. We want MORE as individuals and organizations. You invest in your personal health and needs by eating your greens and saving up in that 401K, but you're not likely as quick to jump into investing in the long term health of your company with the right structure growth plan because dollars are moving now. Last week at the summit we discussed the average tenure of a CRO is 18 months. EIGHTEEN MONTHS! When on average it takes about a year to get ramped and a thorough understanding of the business, industry, and market needs, many expect results and change immediately, but hate the impact to company culture that comes with a massive sudden shake up. RevOps is an investment in your business. A revenue operations team is designed to serve all revenue impacting arms of the organization. What other strategies are you using to connect sales, marketing, and product to establish the unit that truly is your revenue opportunity? Any of these branches can cause total misalignment and derailment in the business if they aren't in sync. It's time to weave better intentions into our organizations. Just like the quilts my grandmother makes for each of her descendants, these works of art remind us that good things take time- but gosh how beautiful are they when they are done! COOs are tasked with enhancing operational efficiency, refining organizational systems, and evolving business strategies. While the word “task” can sometimes imply unpleasant work, you'll likely find that the majority of COOs are quite enthusiastic about these expansive responsibilities! A couple of months in my role as COO, I had the pleasure of integrating an additional layer of analytics that optimized our sponsorship engagement strategy for our largest fundraising event. This framework enhanced our ability to measure progress toward goal attainment with greater precision and enabled us to adapt our strategies in real-time. Regular cross-functional team meetings were introduced to assess performance, generate innovative ideas, and refine marketing and communications strategies based on these insights. In my experience, agility is paramount to achieving key performance metrics. Grateful to partner with such a talented team at the foundation with an unwavering commitment to excellence in fundraising! Our efforts to secure sponsorships support our 2025 Strategic Vision to increase investment and reduce poverty across five Memphis neighborhoods. What "tasks" in operations are you most enthusiastic about?
