For those interested in the consciousness problem debate, especially in view of the emerging importance of AI, I recently recommended THE FOUR REALMS OF EXISTENCE by Joseph E. Ledoux. I would also further recommend ARTIFICIAL YOU - AI AND THE FUTURE OF YOUR MIND by Schneider Susan , Director of the Centre for the Future Mind. This is a very interesting and measured approach on whether conscious AI is really possible and what may be the parameters of human brain enhancement. Puzzles which until recently belonged to Science Fiction may soon become pressing real life questions. Susan Schneider offers valuable guidance.

“We think of remembering as imagining the past based on #concepts, combining some stored details with our expectations about what might have happened. Humans need to #MakingPredictiond to survive (e.g. to avoid danger or to find food), and the AI networks suggest how, when we replay memories while resting, it helps our brains pick up on #patterns from past experiences that can be used to make these #predictions.”

There is nothing quite like seeing your work referenced while sitting in the audience at ECTRIMS 2024! With this in mind, we thank Associate Professor Tim Spelman from the Karolinska Institutet, who referenced the work of our own, Courtney Kremler, in his presentation this morning. Courtney - using cutting-edge AI tools from the Cambridge Centre for AI in Medicine - had shown that routinely collected pre-treatment data can predict the risk of relapse in people with multiple sclerosis (MS) starting different treatments. Tim's talk, titled "Relevance of machine learning in real-world evidence studies", was part of Hot Topic 8: Use of artificial intelligence in MS, and certainly contributed to it being a great session! #ECTRIMS2024 #artificalintelligence #machinelearning #multiplesclerosis
