🚍🟡 Ever Wonder Why School Buses Are Yellow? 🟡🚍 School buses are iconic for their bright yellow color, but do you know why? Here are 5 high-quality reasons that make yellow the safest and most effective choice for student transportation: 1️⃣ High Visibility: Yellow is highly visible in the early morning and late afternoon light, making it easy for drivers to spot school buses on the road. 2️⃣ Safety First: Studies show that people can see yellow objects in their peripheral vision 1.24 times faster than red. This means other drivers can react more quickly to a yellow school bus. 3️⃣ Standardization: Yellow was established as the standard school bus color in 1939 by Dr. Frank W. Cyr, also known as the "Father of the Yellow School Bus." This standardization helps ensure consistent safety across the country. 4️⃣ Attention-Grabbing: The unique color stands out against most natural backgrounds and urban environments, catching the attention of drivers and pedestrians alike. 5️⃣ Caution Signal: Yellow is universally recognized as a color that signals caution, which is crucial for the safety of children boarding and disembarking the bus. School Bus – To seatbelt or not to seatbelt- that is the question George Davis Anyone who has worked in school transportation has been asked, somewhere along the way, “why do school buses not have seatbelts?”. Often times the asker will immediately and condescendingly accuse you of something before you can answer. First of all, they do not know your position on the topic and they may not know whether your buses have seatbelts or not. I have always felt that the question should be, “do school buses require/ need passenger seatbelts?”, or I would respond “why does your personal vehicle have seatbelts?”. I came into school transportation at 18 years old in 1981. We had varying types/ ages of buses as you can imagine. Our spare buses were mid to late 1960’s models. Some had no power steering. Some had fiberglass seat backs. Sometime around 1977 federal standards were fully implemented. So, I have seen most every type of bus and the evolution of safety upgrades over the years. I have been on specification committees over the years, and have heard a lot of these discussions. The following are some observations and opinions that I have formed over my 42 years in this career. These are not in any special order. This is intended to be food for thought. I welcome comments since I’m never through learning myself. See attached:

Attention Pennsylvania drivers! It's crucial to be aware of when to stop for school buses. During National School Bus Safety Week, we want to take a moment to review the rules of the road. Please share these reminders: 🛑 Motorists must stop at least 10 feet away from school buses that have their red lights flashing and stop arm extended. 🛑 Motorists must stop when they are behind a bus, meeting the bus or approaching an intersection where a bus is stopped. 🛑 Motorists following or traveling alongside a school bus must also stop until the red lights have stopped flashing, the stop arm is withdrawn, and all children have reached safety. 🛑 If physical barriers such as grassy medians, guide rails or concrete median barriers separate oncoming traffic from the bus, motorists in the opposing lanes may proceed without stopping. 🛑 Do not proceed until all the children have reached a place of safety. Let's prioritize the safety of our students! Please share this post to spread awareness and keep our roads safe for everyone. #SchoolBusSafety #PennsylvaniaRoadSafety #NSBSW2023 #NationalSchoolBusSafetyWeek #SchoolBus 🚌
